Anyone that is part of my bloodline can potentially turn into a titan. But it isn't automatic or guaranteed and most people can't control it. There's only a few people who can control it, and one titan power that can control other titans.

Thousands of years ago, titans were used to conquer people. But that war ended a century ago. Now the rest of the world hates us, even though they've been oppressing us for generations, locking people up, using them to fight in their wars. It's bullshit.

Congrats on the end of that shitty war. To be clear, is the oppressing/locking/using part of that war or the last century? Trying to follow along, but it's a little like coming into a comic at the end of a run.

It's at least the past 100 years, the way the rest of the world treats us.

Where I come from, we were all forced to forget history. We thought we were the only people in the world and that all of humanity had died 100 years before. But Eldians, the people who can become titans, the ones who weren't trapped on our island were treated like shit or like canon fodder.

So the end of that war wasn't what I'd call a good ending.

We trained with something like swords but not to fight other people. I don't know how to use a sword to fight someone else with a sword but I could learn. I know how to fight hand to hand and I know how to use guns.

There are nine titan powers but there are only six of us left who can use them right now. That's what I mean by not like most people.

Those of us on Paradis Island, we were just people fighting titans or so we thought. Titans terrorised us for a century. Most titans are mindless, just giants who do nothing but eat people.

We didn't know the truth at all. The very few people who knew had brainwashed the rest of the population on the island.

I didn't know I could turn into a titan and control it until it happened on accident. I was lucky the military didn't just kill me for it. But I didn't know how it was possible at the time. My father came from outside the island and he passed down his titan power to me. He wanted to free Eldians. So do I.

Technically I've been able to become a titan for nine years but I only realised it about four years ago. I've done it a lot since then.

One-on-one sword fighting is incredible. Possibly the best thing ever. Though the food here is making a good showing.

Eldians ARE humans. I have no idea how long humans have existed. The first person to become a titan did that 2000 years ago. Don't ask me about the origin. I don't know it.

There are only Eldians and titans on Paradis Island. Except we killed most of the titans. We have never found a way to turn someone back into a regular human. The only exceptions are the Nine Titan Powers. We only recently found out how people turn into titans in the first place. It isn't spontaneous. I don't know anything about the science behind it but if you're injected with spinal fluid from a titan, you will turn into one.

My dad didn't tell me anything at all. I found out reading his journal later. You inherit one of the Nine Titans by becoming a titan and eating the previous holder of that power.

Anyone with one of those powers will only live for 13 years after acquiring it. If they die without passing it on, it will just randomly show up in another Eldian since we're all connected.

The Nine Titan Powers are descended from the original titan I guess.

The king back then when titans first appeared did use them to conquer nations. But they also used them to build great things. People are just people, regardless of whether we can become titans. People are often terrible to one another. But we shouldn't be paying for the alleged sins of people 2000 years ago anymore. We shouldn't be used as cannon fodder to fight wars or kept in camps or murdered just for existing. We should be free.

Most simply, necromancy is magic rooted in death/dying energy. Everyone's alive, but we're all dying slowly right? So there's always a little death energy, more so once someone dies or whatever. That's the big bomb of death energy.

You may be asking, what good is death energy, Gideon? Can't you get soap other ways? (this isn't how we get soap, that's the entirely boring fat --> soap pipeline).

We are still at war, so there's all *that*, but it's more like... the root of most advancements. The fox has whatever she has going on here based on her magic. Home was like, magic to heal, magic to travel (interstellar I mean), energy transfer to get VOOOMPH, magic to protect, magic to talk to the dead, magic to learn about things, magic in dem bones. (bones are great for holding the death magic long term).

When you've got that, that's the base of society and all. Yes, people still generally die and move on. It's not an automatic eternal life (talk about overpopulation problems if it were).

How good did I do?

You can get meat here whenever you want. We barely had meat for years. I can hardly believe it. I hadn't tried spicy noodles. I should.

I don't know how the island got its name but it does seem like a terrible ironic thing.

Only some people where I grew up were religious at all. There was a cult that worshipped the walls that kept us in and the titans out. But religion wasn't really something I ever thought about. What kind of cruel fucking god would have trapped us on that island?

We have a royal family and a military who make the rules and keep the peace inside the walls on the island. I became a cadet when I was 13. I wanted to kill all the titans. I wanted us to be free. I still want us to be free.

When you look up, you see the sky and stuff ~*~beyond~*~ that's space. Everything is a looooong way away from each other, like longer than all around the planet. It could take so long everyone dies or the people who arrive are grandkids of those who left. Like wow, sucky right? So, one of the things our people did was using that death energy to *magically* get there faster. You know, more reasonably. Which means space and exploration yadda yadda yadda.

Paste? We mostly had vegetables. Potatoes. One potato a person per day for awhile. I really am shocked at just how much food there is here.

I don't think gods even exist.

It's hard for me to describe how big the island is. It's pretty big. It felt infinite when I was a kid, but we were trapped inside the walls. The walls kept titans out, but they kept us in. Like livestock. Most people were just content to live like that but I always wanted to go outside the walls. We didn't even know our island was an island. The ocean sounded impossible, like something someone made up.

The rest of the world is still so big by comparison.

The rest of the world already wants to kill us. Kill us for daring to come out of our walls. Kill us to take resources from our island. If we stay put and do nothing, they'll kill us.

The Ninth House is *in* a planet, like dig a giant giant hole maybe as large around as one of those floats in the parade (did you see that? it's like... a large vehicle but still not *that* large). At the bottom you've got a cathedral carved out of the rock, and further you have terrible living quarters, another deeper shaft to darker colder bits, and carved out most of all... caves where the snow leeks grow. So sure, no one else is on the whole planet, but it's still pretty small. Like an island without sunlight, so you're limited in what grows. Also nearly impossible to get out of. I'd know. Tried 88 times. I catch your drift. (literally, Crux had me on his damn inventory, fuck you too, dude).

Which, not that I know 5,000+ years of details, but two sides have taken that exact stance against each other for thoooooooousands of years. No matter HOW COOL the powers, it's still going on f i v e t h o u s a n d years later. You only have 13 - 4 = 9 years. I am pro-freedom. All for freedom. That's what those 88 escape attempts were about. That's why I love it here. Plus there's SO MANY PEOPLE from who knows how different of places. My mom's a bit weird, but she also demonstrates the different things that can happen. So with a body you got:

1. skin
2. flesh/fat
3. gristle
4. blood
5. bones
6. the rest of it

Skin, flesh/fat, gristle, blood, most the rest of it... that all gets processed for soap and brushes and flimsy and stuff. No magic.

Bones. These have enough magic in them a necromancer can turn them into a construct (basically a functional skeleton, despite being dead. They farm leeks. They come to church. etc etc, everything a leek farmer needs). The person's spirit who was there, what makes it *them* isn't involved. It's machinery.

Spirit. So that leaves the body whooooooooosh at death. Most of the time they skedaddle off into the afterlife. Again, necromancers can try and call them back for a chat (my mom wasn't super helpful, just shouted GIDEON GIDEON GIDEON GIDEON) (one guess what my name is). Oh yeah, she was dead when we got there? Falling down that hole I talked about? Not the point. They were WTF and thus the chat. Wah wah went poorly, everyone went on their way.

Except she did what spirits sometimes can do. She stayed. That makes her a revenant. And she... was around the whole time I guess, but low key. I didn't even KNOW. Fast forward to right before I came here. She traveled with me, found a preserved corpse, and used that to (you'll be surprised I'm sure) fight that war I was talking about. Dead 19 years and still had an axe to grind. Didn't work out.

So that's bones and spirit and what gets done WITH them. Not everyone's a necromancer (I'm not, my mom's not). Necromancers are living people who use the energy of the dying to do all that stuff (it is NOT RECOMMENDED to use your own dying energy; guess what happens? did you guess die? yeah, it's die). But with people and animals and plants and whatever else, you've always got things being born and dying (plus if you're IN the war, everyone's dying all over the place).

Okay, I'm backing up on planets and space. During the day, the sky is blue. That's the sky, that's probably where your airship flew (since it has... air). At night, you see the dark and in the dark you have stars. Day hides that darkness and stars. Those belong to SPACE, which is even higher than the air in the sky. In fact, if you go up far enough, there's no more air. There's just black emptiness until you reach something else in space. Do you have a moon? Like, moons are smaller rocks that circle the planet they're around. Your planet is the giant rock going around the sun. And... as you see with coming here, other places exist BEYOND your planet.

You came from underground? There's an underground part of our city on the island, but it's a bad place. I guess it's a place that the higher ups wanted to forget about. They leave people to rot down there. No one deserves that.

Oh, you misunderstand. The other titan shifters and I are not friends. We're enemies, with one sort of exception.

[ It hadn't occurred to him until right now that somewhere, someone lives in a place without a moon. He understands the other worlds thing sort of, but he hasn't yet grasped the vast differences in a more tangible way. This is helping. ]

The moon goes around the planet, okay. But the planet, the whole world we live on, goes around the sun? And there's no air if you far enough up. So how can you travel there? You can breathe because of death magic or something?

Personally, I don't recommend it. Most of them were aaaaall for it, but people can get used to IDK anything.

It's complicated. I made a deal to go somewhere else first, then be able to go where I want. However, someone else showed up all "I'm going to kill all of you, it'll be great." After a long series of horrible deaths and horror, there was a boss fight. The only way to win, the only way *anyone* lived... I jumped on a giant iron spike, killing me but letting my necromancer beat the fuck out of the boss. (Which btw pissed said necromancer off, and she pulled a total dick move that did sort of keep me alive?) (it's complicated)

Correction: if you don't fight the right way, you die. You can still fight and die, which wow, accomplishes bumfuck nothing (looking at you, Judith). (We could have used Judith and Marta in the boss fight, but noooooooooooo they had to get themselves killed fighting the wrong person)

Honestly, I got no idea why they left you alone for 100 years. I've seen enough to know other people have *a lot going on* that isn't gonna all be about you. Maybe one of them was uwu for a titan. Maybe they decided they needed to fight among themselves for a bit. Maybe they needed to make more kids. Or someone wrote a dope comic book. I don't know. People do all kinds of things.

I don't know if anyone solved war. I'm pretty sure people have fought differently than you or me. So if you want to get better at it (with or without solving it), study hard and fight smart.

You got it. Revenant!mom completely unconnected to skeleton!mom. The House's necromancers turn the skeletons into construct leek farmers. Say what you will about the Ninth House, but it's actually the house you are *most likely* to die from old age. Everyone's ANCIENT. Some of them it's more like "how are you a l i v e???" Resources are pretty limited. It's basically recycling... with people. They aren't killing anyone for leek farmers.

Some necromancers are soldiers, but they're also everything else. Scholars. Doctors. Artists. Diplomats. Priests. You know, anything anyone else is. They're people. Non-necromancers are soldiers too; there's a lot more of those (most people aren't necromancers).

Generally, when there's light, you see things in the light. In the dark, you don't. That also means if you have a tiny candle across a large hall, you probably won't see it if there's 800 chandeliers tossing light around everywhere. But if they aren't, you'll probably see it, even though it's far away. That's basically what's going on on. It's just a different scale.

Yes, moon around the planet. Planet around the sun. It's basically a size thing (smaller thing goes around the larger thing). If you want to go where there's no air, you bring it with you. Like, when you swim underwater ~~real water~~ you hold your breath and come back up to breath MORE when it runs out. Again, we're just scaling up. You bring the air with you. ~~Let's not explain that air can keep being regenerated.~~
