Texts From Last Night

Welcome to Folkmore's Texts From Last Night meme! This meme can be used as a branch off from our Test Drive Memes and be used as game canon or just for casual fun in the setting! You do not need to be in our game or be invited to play on our TFLN. This can be a great way to meet current players for future invites, get a feel for the setting, or just have some fun.

This can be used for samples on our applications and used as spoons for players accepted into the game!

[ Nanika stands in the kitchen at the— almost at the ready. She pulls out her spoon and summons a cute apron as is clearly needed in the baking of cookies!

She looks at the list of ingredients and holds up her spoon questioningly. ] What do we need?

[ Toge smiles and he taps the screen. First ingredient, flour. He goes over and opens the cupboard.

It's on a fairly low shelf, he's short he's not gonna make things hard for himself. He gestures that she's welcome to take it. ]

[ Nanika claps her hands together and steps forward to take the flour. She's not used to carrying bulky things around but manages it easily.

She sets it down on the counter not too far away from the screen. Step one, accomplished. Step two? ]

[ Toge beckons her back over and points out the sugar. It's in the name and probably the best part. ]

Tuna.

[ Of course! Nanika nods and fetches the sugar as well. She opens the bag once it's on the counter, standing on her tiptoes, and woooooooows at all the sugar in the bag. She's never seen so much sugar in one place. She's never baked before. ]

[ That's alright, it's an easy recipe. He helps her find each ingredient in his kitchen and pulls the bowl out of the mixer to set it down on the counter in front of her. He also grabs a set of measuring cups and spoons.

That's should be all they need. Oh wait, they need a second bowl. Toge fetches that and then points at the first step. Measure the flour into the bowl. ]

Tuna. [ Toge taps the bowl that doesn't go in the mixer and points out the right measuring cup. He holds up two fingers. Two cups, Nanika. ]

[ Kitchens have so many items. Nanika couldn't tell what most of them are used for. A pan is a pan. A bowl is a bowl. But oh the things that can go in bowls!

She nods at Toge's instructions and performs the measurement carefully. Nanika digs the cup deep into the flour and, like in the video, makes sure the flour is flat at the top of the cup. The flour feels nice under her hand, but she doesn't play around in it. She pours the first one in and repeats as slowly and carefully as before. ] Done!

[ Nanika peers at the recipe to look for the next step. She's sure Toge will point out the right stuff to use, but she wants to try and follow along. ]

[ That's alright, he doesn't mind. He shows her on the recipe. The other dry ingredients, and he then points at the tools she needs to measure them, and how much.

He's really just a supervisor here, who happens to know where everything is. ]

[ Nanika goes back and forth between the recipe, Toge's directions, and the actual ingredients. It's a good thing Toge points to everything she needs to use or she probably would mix up things like teaspoons and tablespoons. Nanika knows a lot but not about this.

When she adds the last dry ingredient into the bowl, she claps her slightly coated hands enthusiastically. Look at that! ] Mmm, spoon? [ She guesses. ]

Salmon. [ It definitely should be stirred and so he leans over and grabs a wooden spoon before giving it to Nanika.

He mimes stirring. Just a minute or so, until it's combined anyway. ]

Yes! [ Nanika does a little dance with the spoon before she starts stirring. Her large black holes of eyes watch the mixture as the various colors blend together into one. She touches it with her finger and sucks the finger in her mouth. Interesting.

Her attention turns to the other ingredients. It's about to get serious! ]

[ Toge pulls the mixer closer and lifts the paddle. He gestures to that bowl and then to the butter, and the other wet ingredients, as well as the sugar. That's what goes in there. ]

[ Oh goody, it's going to look much more like cookies! Nanika measures out the butter. She spills the first wet ingredient carrying it over to the bowl, so she decides to measure the others over the bowl. It's fine. She only added a bit extra that one time. Her face turns in big ticking movements over toward Toge to make sure it isn't too big a mess up. ]

Salmon, salmon. [ Toge encourages. She's fine. A tiny bit can be adjusted if it needs to be.

Once she gets the ingredients in, he turns it on so it does the mixing for them. He pulls out a spatula so he can push it down as needed. He loves this mixer. ]

[ Nanika watches the mixer with both awe and dismay. Her eyes go to the spoon she used to mix the dry ingredients. It's so fun to mix them together, and the mixer gets to have all the fun. The mixer is probably better at it than she is, so Nanika manages not to pout.

She hovers next to Toge and watches everything swirl together impressively. He tames the mixture, forcing it to stay in the bowl. ] It works so fast. It's not a trick. [ Stories like to make things up sometimes. ]

Salmon, salmon. [ That's the easy part, anyway. Then he taps the bowl. He stops the machine and lifts the bowl to pour a bit in and then uses the machine to mix it.

Next, he points at her and stops the machine again. Not all of it, please. ]

[ Oooh they add more! Nanika noticed Toge hadn't added all of it. She isn't entirely sure why. Surely a mixer that powerful can handle it. If not, she has... a spoon! Power to the spoon!

Nanika still observes everything carefully. She wants to do it right, and even if she doesn't understand why it's right, he makes it clear there is a right amount. ] Okay! I got it!

[ She lifts the bowl, which feels big and heavy to her and tips it over over over until some of the mixture goes into the other bowl. It feels hard to control but she levels her bowl back out after some comes out. She quickly puts the bowl back down again. Her arms aren't used to lifting anything heavier than schoolbooks. ]

[ The mixer probably could handle it, which is a benefit to the mixer, but it's better to add gradually.

Once the dough is mixed together, Toge grabs a handful of flour and dusts the counter top before scooping the pile onto it.

He pulls out a rolling pin and he puts it on top of the dough, using one hand to roll it back and forth just a bit to demonstrate. Then he gestures at Nanika and moves out of the way. ]

[ Nanika peers at the countertop amazed that it can be used like that. For real! It's so cool. The simple shapes of her facial features distort to show awe.

She accepts the job of rolling the dough with all the solemnity it requires, which is a great deal for a thirteen year old girl but topped with eager enthusiasm. She holds both sides of the rolling pin and rolls all the way across the dough. And back. And repeats, until the dough starts sticking. Her eyes peer between the bag of flour and the pin. ] Flour the pin?

Salmon. [ Toge agrees and demonstrates, grabbing a pinch of flour and holding it over the rolling pin. He puts it back and also mimes running his hands over the pin itself.

He gestures, she's welcome to do it, that's just how. ]

[ Nanika watches with wide eyes and immediately steps up next to him to do it with actual flour. It's such a funny texture, the dough and the flour on the rolling pin.

She hums as she continues to roll the dough. ] This is so fun.

Salmon salmon. [ Toge agrees, that's why he bakes and cooks so much. He genuinely enjoys it.

He gets a pair of cookie sheets and lines them with parchment paper and uses his spoon to summon them a cookie cutter set. Once she's got it about right, he holds up a hand.

Toge cuts out a cookie and moves it to the tray. See? ]

It looks so skinny. [ Nanika hasn't baked before, but she knows what cookies look like. This cookie looks like it's going to collapse from exhaustion. Fortunately there's a ~~fainting couch~~ cookie sheet ready to catch it.

Still, it's the next step! That's important! Nanika cuts out cookies until she can't get the cookie cutter to fit on the remaining dough. A decent amount of dough. ]

[ Toge chuckles lightly and gestures, holding his finger and thumb close together, before expanding the distance a bit. They will grow during baking.

As one sheet fills, he swaps it for another and promptly shoves it into his freezer, to cool the cookies down. ]

[ Nanika's mouth forms a large oh. She definitely doesn't understand cooking. It seems magical. Yet the instructions themselves are easy enough to follow, and it's fun. Plus she'll be able to give cookies to people and make them feel better.

She stares at the freezer and tilts her head. ] That is important?
