Texts From Last Night

Welcome to Folkmore's Texts From Last Night meme! This meme can be used as a branch off from our Test Drive Memes and be used as game canon or just for casual fun in the setting! You do not need to be in our game or be invited to play on our TFLN. This can be a great way to meet current players for future invites, get a feel for the setting, or just have some fun.

This can be used for samples on our applications and used as spoons for players accepted into the game!

Salmon salmon. [ Toge agrees, and adds the second pan before going over to his relic and setting a timer. About ten minutes should do it. ]

Some cookie doughs have to be chilled before you bake them, because of the butter.

[ Nanika plays with the little bits of dough that stick to her hands while Toge types and does her best to wait. Not to stand and peer around the whole time he's typing.

He explains it, but Nanika doesn't know why butter has to be chilled. She wiggles in place as she decides whether or not to ask. Asking isn't a demand. It's not... she's curious that's all. ] Why does butter need to chill?

[ Toge looks pleased she asked though and although he has to type the response, it's not a big deal. ]

Butter makes things kind of crispy, or puffy. Like pie crust too, you know how they're flaky. It's because of the butter. But when it gets warm, it doesn't have the chance to puff desserts up. Cold butter though, makes an air pocket. That's how it makes it puff up into a cookie shape instead of spreading out flat. Not as good.

[ Nanika reads the explanation, and her hands motion things puffing up or spreading sadly flatly. Butter is incredible! She didn't know it could do that. She eyes the remaining butter with greater respect. ] Wow. That's important.

[ A flat cookie, a pie that isn't flaky, it's all so so so sad. She's never had a sad cookie or pie, but Nanika is glad to get it right from the start with Toge's help. ] You're amazing.

Practice and seeing lots of cooking videos. Thanks though. All the ingredients are pretty important in baking, you have to follow recipes carefully.

At cooking too. [ Nanika adds. She meant... generally.

She reads the instructions and nods. She's going to find as many cooking and baking videos as possible and practice aaaaaaall of them. Well, not all of them at first. She'll start with simple things. ] Can we bake regularly? Together?

Salmon. [ Toge agrees with a nod, he doesn't mind baking. He does it often enough and Nanika will give him another reason to do it.

He turns on the oven to preheat it and sets the dial. ]

[ Nanika vibrates in excitement. She's so pleased. Look at this, another friend! Of her own? It's... she's only ever had two friends in her life, Alluka and Killua. And now...

Toge. ] I love you, Toge.

Salmon salmon. [ Toge says agreeably, he loves her too and he pops over to pat her head affectionately before going back to the fridge to take out the trays, and pop them in the oven.

Perfect. All they need to wait is for them to bake and they will be all set. ]

[ Nanika smiles happily, a giant wide smile that bursts with joy. No one has ever been happier to hear the name of a fish twice in a row, she thinks. She still remembers learning his language from the alternate world. She can hear the feeling in his voice. It's amazing, to think she's baking cookies with her sempai. Her badass awesome sempai. ]

What's your favorite cookie?

[ That seems like a very important question really, and Toge looks like he's thinking about it seriously. There are so many good options. Since they're waiting for things to bake, he doesn't need to strictly do anything but chat with her. ]

Chocolate chip. It's a classic for a reason. Especially warm right out of the oven.

[ Nanika waits patiently. She's in no rush. She's glad to spend as much time with Toge as she can. She still needs to master understanding his riceball ingredients. It's nice simply having time together.

The answer is put away for future knowledge, as well as the part about being right out of the oven. That will take more work. Or better timing. At least everything for making cookies is already in his apartment. ] Gooey melty chocolate is best.

Salmon. [ Toge confirms with a nod. When the buzzer goes off, he turns off the oven and pulls out the two cookie trays, after sliding his hand into an oven mitt.

Next he's setting up a cutting board and a cookie rack on top. ]

Wait a couple of minutes before you move them to the rack so that they finish cooking.

[ Nanika immediately reaches for a cookie but pauses to read Toge's message. She looks sheepish but glances at the clock. Two minutes. She can wait two minutes. ]

Keep cooking, friends. [ This directed at the cookies. She pats the air above them, like tucking them in. ]

[ It's cute and he's amused, but he adds for her benefit- ]

Almost everything you cook is like that, it usually has to sit for a couple minutes to finish cooking. It'd of cool like that.

[ Nanika nods seriously. That is an important thing to remember! She wants to bake or cook more after this. She wants to reach the point she can do it all by herself! And give them to people.

When the two minutes is up, she grabs the first cookie and drops it. ] Still hot!

Fish flakes. [ Toge says gently. He takes out a spatula and starts transferring the cookies over to the rack he set up. He waves his hand a bit in a so-so motion. ]

Another few minutes until you can touch them. But now they're done cooking on the pan and can cool properly.

I thought they were done. [ Nanika looks to the same place Toge got a spatula and gets one of her own. She won't leave him to do all the work! ]

Bad to leave on the pan? Because hot?

Salmon. [ Toge nods. Exactly. Take it off the pan and it will begin to cool.

He keeps his eye on it though, gently touching one with a finger, until he gestures to Nanika.

Okay, go ahead and eat up. ]

[ Once the cookies are transferred, Nanika watches them at counter level, willing them into the right temperature. Let the magic be complete!

She straightens when it is cookie time and carefully selects one from the middle of the rack. She holds it up to her mouth and sticks the entire cookie into the black abyss. She closes her mouth and ponders. In a couple moments, she swallows. ]

That's good!

[ Toge can't help but taste test too, and she's right they turned out great. He beams at her and holds up his hand for a high five. ]

[ Nanika gives Toge a high five, then dances while turning in a circle. She's extremely pleased with herself. ]

I want to save some for Alluka.

Salmon. [ Toge thinks that's a good idea and since they're cool enough now, he pulls open the cupboard and takes out a small plastic container that he can load about eight cookies into and snap the lid shut before offering it to her so she can take them home. ]

[ Nanika gives Toge a small bow. Proper manners. ] Thank you very much.

[ That's as long as formality lasts. Nanika accepts the container of cookies, presses it against her cheek, and grins. ] I'm so lucky to know you.

Tuna mayo. [ He's glad he knows her too and he pats her head again. He gestures back to the entrance of the blanket fort.

Back to it then? Like taking a half an hour break or so to make cookies is just a normal thing to do. ]
