TEXTS FROM LAST NIGHT

Welcome to Folkmore's monthly Texts From Last Night meme! This meme can be used as a branch off from our Test Drive Memes and be used as game canon or just for casual fun in the setting! You do not need to be in our game or be invited to play on our TFLN. This can be a great way to meet current players for future invites, get a feel for the setting, or just have some fun.

This can be used for samples on our applications and used as spoons for players accepted into the game!

TEXTS FROM LAST NIGHT GENERATOR

It's a book. A really old book. The trouble is, finding a translation which fits the original text but isn't too dry. I've noticed that's pretty common among translated books.

A police force? And monsters, actual monsters? Like dragons or something even stranger?

Figures. It seems to be like that everywhere.

Ah, I've heard that sentiment before. A friend of mine makes it her mission to read as many books as possible and frequently complains about translated works.

But yes, monsters. They're a big problem at home. Most people can't leave the cities without protection, because the moment you're outside a barrier you risk being attacked.

Yeah, I can't blame him for complaining. I complain! But I need to learn middle English so that I can read the book in its original format. I know Spanish and a decent amount of Quileute, but middle English is stumping me. It's annoying.

That sounds both fascinating and scary. I can't decide which one is ranked the highest.

Middle English isn't a common tongue, I take it?

I would opt for scary, personally. Terca Lumireis is a beautiful but dangerous world. If we had a solution beyond simply protecting the cities... but we don't, really.

No, plain English is. But there are enough differences to make it as strange as reading an unfamiliar language. Most good four-year colleges and universities have a course path for it. I'm aiming for Evergreen State in Olympia. I want to become a librarian. Evergreen State has a good program for that and it's not too far from everyone I love.

[other than Rachel and Rebecca. Rebecca had married some surfer in Hawaii and seemed to be blissfully happy the times Bella had gotten to talk to her. and Rachel was angrily licking her wounds with every cute girl in the Seattle city limits]

What's threatening the lands outside of the cities? If it's okay to ask? I know it might be a sensitive subject, like there are some subjects I can't be part of because I'm not Quileute.

[ Oh, she would like Estellise so much, is the thing. Flynn feels a brief pang of longing. A fellow book-lover would do so much to make Estellise feel at home. ]

A librarian sounds like a dream position for so many, being surrounded by books all day. I admit I'm a little fuzzy on what else they do. The royal librarians don't seem to do much but fetch books for Lady Estellise when she requests them.

But, no, I don't mind talking about it at all. It is not so much sensitive as it is a persistent and age-old problem. Terca Lumireis is a world nearly overrun with monsters. There are dozens of species outside Zaphias—the city I am from—alone. They live on the plains and the forests and in the rivers, in the sea, in the sky. They are generally no problem for a trained fighter, but it severely limits the sort of travel an ordinary civilian might get to do, especially one without the funds to pay for an Imperial escort or hire a guild for help.

It's one of many problems I'd like to help solve, although it is by far the most difficult.

Are there very many subjects you're kept in the dark about?

[even though she was fast friends with the Black children and the Clearwater children, she still appreciated moments alone with books. reading and dreaming about what the books' protagonists went through]

It absolutely is for me. When I started school, I was scared because it wasn't the Rez school where all of my friends went. I tried hiding in the library and its librarian, Mrs. Hughes, found me and got me to return to my kindergarten class by lending a library book to me.

And librarians in my world help people do research and find sources for term papers and we introduce young children into the joy of reading for its own sake, not just because it's for a goal like a paper. Even with the internet, we still have Encyclopedias and a great non-fiction selection.

But you're able to make things better for the civilians who want to travel? Even if they're not rich enough to afford some kind of escort to get them from point A to point B? It's really noble to do it just because you can, like someone out of an Arthurian fable.

I'm sure that you and people like you can do it.

Not...really? I found out about the werewolves pretty much as soon as the vampires moved into town. One of the vampires is a friend, I guess. I know he wants to be more, but he's not my type. And by learning about the cold ones, I also learned about the wolves.
