You know, the more you type, the more suspicious your story is. Like I said, I know my brother. He helps when people needs help. He doesn't expect to be repaid. We often rarely are, honestly.

I am beginning to understand that, yes. Isn't that a good case for repaying him? If it isn't expected, or often given?

You would think that, but I happen to like to eat and have a place to stay for the night. You know, all those lovely luxuries.

Ah, I see. So the problem is more that you should be paid for your services, but your brother fails to actually charge anyone, so you end up doing it for free?

One could say that is the more noble and honorable thing to do, but if it's directly leading to you not having enough food, he should be considering that.

He once took up a job for us FOR FIVE GOLD that was dealing with a poisoning and killing of children. While I am all for trying to figure out why children were dying, I can't even get a stay in an inn for FIVE GOLD. And we nearly died.

And trying to get that through his thick skull would require more strength than I possess in my entire body.

That really is a pittance! There was no reward or anything, or a monster to turn in for a bounty?

[ Listen it's either turn in monster parts for money or assume bears, wolves, and mandragoras are carrying gald on them ]

And no, there really wasn't much of a bounty for the thing. The people of the slums of Stillben are incredibly poor. Although, I suppose we could have skinned that crocodile that tried to eat him...

I can't fault your brother for wanting to help people without resources. Most would likely have turned them away for their inability to pay more. Your adventures sound a lot like Yuri's. Is that a normal job for you? Did the others pay more?

It's not about the wanting to help the less fortunate. I admire him for that. He's always had a soft spot for those in need. It's one of his better traits. I'm just the one who has to figure out how we're going to get food and supplies until we get our next job.

And, that used to be a very good indicator of what we did, when it was just the two of us and my bear. Lately, however, we've done a lot bigger jobs. Killing dragons happens to be rather lucrative.

I can imagine. There are rumors of large bounties for the massive monsters roaming Terca Lumireis, but I have never encountered one.

That is a hard line to walk, I imagine—that's the reason, in fact, that the Knights exist back home. We can take on those jobs and help the people we're supposed to help without worrying about extracting payment from them.

Or, well. That is the way the system is meant to work. It's quite different in practice.

Between the members of our group, we've killed at least seven dragons, a vampire, a pit fiend demon, a large basilisk, and countless lesser annoyances. We're not exactly hurting for coin or gems, thankfully.

But, bounty hunting is a fairly popular occupation on Exandria, even with those beasts taken out.

You're as prolific as the Hunting Blades! Taking out that many monsters is no small feat.

I don't know who that is, but Vox Machina is fairly famous all over Tal'dorei and our name is reaching other continents of Exandria, certainly.

Ah, they're a rather well-known guild. As their name says, they are focused on hunting the monsters scattered widely all over the worlds. I have to say that while their goal is a noble one, they are often a pain to deal with. Vox Machina is your guild?

Oh, that sounds more like the Slayer's Take. Which is a guild based out of Vasselheim. That we're all members of as well. Except Pike...

Vox Machina is my family. They are the people that I trust my life, my heart, my soul with.

[ Flynn gets the sense, somehow, that she does not mean that they're entirely flesh-and-blood family. This sounds more like the sort of family woven together in the Lower Quarter, sticking close to each other regardless of who shares blood with who.
