Edward is kind of one of those guys where I'd tell him to jump and he'd ask how high. But he's my friend. Not a boyfriend.

Yes. He keeps trying to get into my personal space. Keeps trying to tempt me with the idea of being young and beautiful (his words) forever. But I don't know. I've spent all of my life in Forks and I can't imagine breaking Jake's and my dad's hearts with anything else. Not because it's expected of me, but because I want it to be.

There's more to life than youth and beauty.

I know, but Edward keeps dangling it in front of me. Like a cat toy, only not likely.

No!

The last thing I want to do is outlive everyone I love while being stuck with someone who's a friend, at best.

I want a normal human life! I want to live! I want to go to college to be a librarian and take over the grade school library with the blessing of Mrs. Hughes. I want to marry Jake when we're ready for it and have 2.5 babies and a Golden Retriever. Or maybe have Jake be the Golden Retriever and have an ordinary American housecat.

Then it isn't very kind of him to keep bringing this up to you when you've refused.

It's not. But I think he thinks I'm made of glass. Sure, I'm klutzy, but dad taught me to use everything from a police revolver to a sawed off twelve gauge shotgun. I'm not defenseless. And I'm not afraid of growing up and getting old, not if I have Jake beside me.
