Welcome to Folkmore's Texts From Last Night meme! This meme can be used as a branch off from our Test Drive Memes and be used as game canon or just for casual fun in the setting! Are faeries something you have back on Earth? I've never heard of them before.

Only in stories and folktales, which this place pulls heavy inspiration from. Much I've run into here I'd only read about in books back on Earth.

[ it would make sense that if this place is taking them from different galaxies (different universes too, if what he's hearing lately is true) then it would be taking other things too. like faeries, apparently

he would ask more about those but the poor guy doesn't deserve to be prodded about it after what he's been through with them ]

Do they have books like that here too? Or is it just what you remember from home?

We don't really have many books where I'm from. Most of that is in archives, holos and recordings and that kind of thing.

They do! The libraries are full of them from all sorts of different worlds. I once asked a spirit attendant for more information about Folkmore's history and she pointed me to a shelf full of fairy tales. They take these tales very seriously here.

Or they're intentionally hiding something. Likely both.

You may be surprised to find some familiar ones floating about in one of the schools! Maybe even in a recording.

My grandfather used to tell me stories like that but I barely remember, it's been a long time. Most of the ones I was clamoring to hear about were about the Rebellion and that was history, not just a story.

If that's what this place works with then it's worth looking into, maybe you could give me some recommendations on which ones to start on so I'm not completely in the dark with these things.
I'm assuming that the books are like these devices, anybody can read them?

There's lots of historical books to be found as well! And people can ask for things from home if they want. I've "purchased" some books from home that way, with my spoon.

I'd love to give you a few recommendations!! [opening pandora's box here, Poe...] The books are for anyone to borrow, yes. I could even show you in person sometime.

[ A different kind of person might balk a bit at the enthusiasm that practically radiates even through text, but Poe is not that person. While he might not have the seemingly endless patience for old dusty texts like Rey does there was a younger, much more carefree Poe that could very much be called a war history nerd, he kind of gets it.

This is also preemptively arming himself with knowledge about a place that otherwise seems like something straight out of a fever dream.

Not to mention the fact that Steven probably needs a distraction as much as he does, and this is obviously something that makes him happy. It's kinda cute, actually. ]

Yeah, that would be great. I'm still figuring out where everything is around here, you can show me the ropes.
I'd like to read the ones you've got from Earth too, if you wouldn't mind sharing those.

Do you know what kind of limits there are on what we can ask for? Just small things?

[Get him in a library and you'll see just how nerdy he is, Poe. Steven practically has his own desk in the Kuma Lisa school library, he's there every day.]

I'm glad you trust me to help show you around here, mate! Of course I'd be positively chuffed to.

Oh, as far as I know, the limits are large. Someone from my world even purchased an entire building from back home. People can ask for certain items, weapons, even pets from home... though everything has its own value, and that's based on how extreme the ask is, I suppose.

I'm guessing from the context chuffed is a good thing?

Somehow I'm not sure that they'll want to give me my x-wing back, but I'll try anyway.
It might be nice to have my blaster, that shouldn't be a big ask.
A droid should count as a pet, right? Close enough.

Oh! sorry, yes. it essentially means 'pleased' :)

I do know of one bloke who asked for something like that and ended up with a magical creature instead so... it's definitely not always accurate. As with everything else, I think it depends on the fox's mood. You could get it back but not be able to fly it or maybe it's made out of... flowers or something ridiculous like that.

I'm not sure what a droid is - like a robot?

Good, me too.

As much as I want it back I don't know if I want to risk seeing what the fox might do to it.
It's not like it's going to get me very far without nav coordinates anyway, I've pulled off some stunts before but even I'm not flying blind into the unknown.

Right, yeah you probably don't have those on Earth. They're mech units built to do specific jobs, anything from translating to engineering work. Mine's called an astromech, they're made to work on ships.
But he's not some default model, I've rebuilt him from the core processor up and he's got a lot of personality even for a BB unit.
I think you'd like him.

If anything, it might end up being a very cool lawn ornament.

[A robot with a personality? Steven has seen enough bad sci-fi movies to be wary about that, though he keeps the silly thought to himself.]

Well, you're already on your way to build the spoons to bring him here one day if you so please! The more people you talk to, the more likely it'll be to see him again.

Yeah? What makes you say so?

My baby deserves better than that.

[ If it's just a matter of talking to people, well, he can do that. It's not like he's got a busy schedule here. ]

Everybody likes him. He's cute and he's friendly.
He only speaks in Binary, but he understands plenty of other languages so you could talk to him. He could also show you holos of things back from my galaxy, so you'd know what I'm talking about.

For now I guess I could try to sketch some things out, if you were curious about what these these things actually look like.

That sounds like fun! I'd be happy to meet him if you ever do get to bring him around. That is, if we're both still here too.

There's no way to know how long anybody will be here, is there?

[ Whatever the fox says or thinks about all this, or him, he's got way too much unfinished business to stay here. That said, there's a part of him that's inherently curious about what it's like to live here, to not have the weight of the galaxy on his shoulders and, more specifically, the whole Resistance looking to him to be confident, to still have hope.

Lately he's almost managed to forget that he might have a life after the war. ]

If only. People have been here days, weeks, months... some over a year. You can't know how long it'll be for anyone.

[volantes]

I'm used to that.

[ He definitely shouldn't elaborate. ]

That just means we have to make the best of what we've got, right?

[It kind of is like death except you know sometimes the person has returned home somewhere safe and happy. Other times not so much. It's a different kind of loss.]

Exactly. We don't have to like it but it could be so much worse, honestly.
