I don’t mind a little if I can get other stuff with it.

You’ll really do that? Do you normally just eat vegan?

I do! I have my whole life. And I'm a pretty good cook, if I do say so myself.

[moondregs]

I wasn’t until I came here and the rabbit traits started. I didn’t eat red meat very often but my favorite dish did have crab in it. I don’t even crave it anymore.

Oh, I'm sorry. But there are some good vegan crab substitutes! Like artichoke hearts, or jackfruit. You can make pretty good California rolls with tofu!

I never really cooked for myself at all. It was usually my mom. But I guess I have to start learning how since I'm alone.

I could teach you a few of the recipes I know. It would at least get you started on the basics of vegan cooking. Then once you feel like you've got a handle on that, you can start experimenting with new recipes to try! See what you like!

I'd like it too. Honestly. It'll make me feel good to have someone to cook for. I'm not used to making only one serving.

How many people do you usually have to feed?

Well, there's me, my wife Mercedes Oak-Garcia, and our two beautiful boys Sparrow and Lark!

You're obviously very proud of them. You seem like a good dad.

[ Oh he's so dorky but too sweet for Junpei to give him any flak for it. Everything he's experienced from Henry has made him feel the guy is genuine. ]

[ Junpei telling him he's a good dad should really make him feel better than it does. After all his fears that he would turn into his own father, someone affirming that he's been doing the right thing should assuage his feelings.

But... Would Junpei still say that if he met the twins? And is he proud of them? Certainly, after everything they've been through, Henry's proud of how resilient his boys are. He's proud of the way Sparrow has embraced the idea of being a Love Wolf and channelling his energy into trying to be positive and caring. But Lark...

Can he really be proud of the son who literally stabbed him in the back? And— oh, god— how horrible does it make him to be proud of one son and not the other?



But, Henry realizes, Junpei meant well with his compliment. It's not fair of him to have an existential crisis in the middle of what was otherwise a perfectly pleasant casual conversation. ]

Thank you, Junpei. They can be a hassle sometimes, but they're good kids. Deep down.
And you're a very kind, thoughtful young man, yourself.

I'm not kind at all. I just can pull off politeness sometimes. I think I'm too screwed up inside to be truly kind. I carry a lot of anger. But you're the kind of person even I can't be rude to.

[ Henry smiles to himself. Maybe Junpei would get along with the boys after all. ]

I know what you mean. I have a lot of anger inside me, too.
But it's the way we act that determines what kind of person we are. And you've been kind to me, even if it was only out of politeness.

I'd like to believe that even we screwed up, angry people can still choose to be kind.

[ The sunshine personality really makes him think about someone he knew back home. Idly he wonders if he's okay, but it's kind of painful to realize he'll never know. ]
