Oh, no, not at all. They're for anyone but I mostly ate them as a teenager. I'd grab one to take with me when I was running late for school. Quick, sweet, and portable.

They sound very pleasant. I shall look forward to them, then. Food has admittedly been quite an experience here.
Then again, living alone in general has also been quite the experience.

Don't expect fancy. But I like them.

I assure you, if I never have 'fancy' again, it will be entirely too soon.

In a manner of speaking. My attendants have always seen to my care and safety and comfort, but also kept what they consider a reverent distance.

That sounds like shit. No offense. Why would they keep a... a reverent distance from you? And why would you put up with that?

I fear it's quite a long story, particularly without the context you would need. The short of it is thus: the Undying serve the Phoenix, and I am the Phoenix. They can be somewhat zealous in their devotion.

It's a staple of families everywhere in my world. Dried macaroni and powdered cheese. It's a treat and the least fancy food you will ever eat.

The Undying. That doesn't sound like a cult at all. Do you want to be served by them?

I cannot say I've ever heard of macaroni, and powdered cheese sounds very strange to me. I'd be glad to try it, though, if you know where we might obtain it.

They are a bit cultish. In my world, eikons such as the Phoenix are oft highly-regarded, even worshiped, so while the Undying are more secretive than most, they mean no harm. They also saved my life when I was a boy, so though they won't hear of it, I owe them greatly.

Don't worry about that, I might already have a few boxes of it at home. And macaroni is just dried tubular pasta shaped like a c.

I kind of have a hard time with 'mean no harm' but I've dealt with some nasty cults in my life. How'd they save you?

More importantly, you have known more than one cult?

I have. I knew one intimately back home but I'm familiar with many more. And, in Trench, you couldn't sneeze without hitting a Disciple of one Pthumerian or another.

That kind of faith... that kind of devotion... is dangerous.

Forgive me: Trench? [ .. pthumerian? ]

It can be, I agree. The Undying live in service to the Phoenix, and the Phoenix lives in service to Rosaria and her people, but were the dominant of the Phoenix ever to turn away from their duties, it could mean terrible things.
I feel fairly confident that I will be the last Phoenix, but it does concern me at times to think of what the Undying may do once we are gone. To lose one's purpose in its entirety is a devastating thing.

It's just a city that's got a lot of cults.

If they listen to you, you need to prepare them for that loss.

Is it located here?

I have done my best over the years, but truly, I fear there is no real preparation for something like that.

No. Thank god.

Write a book. Write down what you want to happen after you're gone. It might help to hear the dominant of the Phoenix wants them to go into the world and do good for others. Help those trying to climb up out of their own ashes. And then even if they lose the Phoenix, they still have a purpose.
