[There's a pause from then as his his helmet dips, and then..]

I'm...sorry that happened. [Would things have been different, if he hadn't been in such a rush to get back to Mos Espa? Force knows.]

If it means anything. He's dead. Fett killed him. [Part of Din wishes it was at his hand, and if it wasn't for Fennec, it would have been.]

Don't. I've been taking on syndicates since I got the armor. One of them was going to come for me eventually. I knew I'd die in service to the town. [ Cobb waves Mando's guilt away. ]

I know. Fett told me the whole story while I was recovering.

[He lifts his gaze again. Helmet tilting.]

Yet you still survived. Even without armor. You're a hard man to kill. [Which Din is certainly glad for.]

Hmm, must have been after I left.

Death can have me when I'm ready. [ His grin is sharp and a little violent. Cobb will never go easily. ]

You were gone by the time I woke up in bacta. Off to bigger and better things.

...and it'll be a fight to the end. [Din might just be smiling a little under the helmet.]

Yes. [He may or may not have been a little hesitant. But he knew Cobb was in good hands, and Fett had promised to keep him updated.] Grogu and I left to find my covert. There's...something I need to do back home. [That now doesn't appear it's going to happen. Now that he's stuck here.]

What is it you say? This is the way?

[ Fett hadn't told him much about why Mando left just that he had and the kid was with him. ] You've always been after something out there among the stars.

This is the Way. [There's just a nod in return, as the response comes automatically.]

I usually don't stay in one place for long. My time here. [one hand makes a gesture as if to indicate Folkmore.] Is the longest I've stayed in one place. Habit from being a bounty hunter.

I guess we can call this my first trip off world. Would've liked to see the stars and maybe see what all the fuss is about hyperspace lanes. [ His tone gives away how angry he is about the lack of choice in it too. ]

There's more green and water here than I've ever seen in my life. It rains. [ He shakes his head and takes a drink. ] It rains.

Stars from space are a lot brighter. Than they are planet side. [To Din, seeing stars and using hyperspace is about as common and routine as going to the bathroom. He's trying, though.] Space is quiet. It's rare to encounter another vessel, unless you're close to a planet. [Or you're being hunted/attacked. There's a helmet tilt as he thinks.]

I...usually use hyperspace to sleep. Jumps can last anywhere from hours to a day or more. Depending on the jump you're doing. [Don't ask how he manages it in his tiny N-1, that has no accommodation at all. Much less with a toddler.] And how much fuel your ship has.

Living in the desert region, must feel like home.

Desert's never quiet. There's always the wind or the sands moving. Seems quiet to off-worlders but it never is. [ He gets a distant look in his eyes thinking about it for a minute. ]

It doesn't. Tatooine's harsher than this place. Hotter and dryer and meaner. Also, only one sun. Sunrise and sunset are all wrong. [ His smile is mildly amused. ] And no one knows how to build a house to handle the heat. They should go under ground and be more open but nope, just boxes sittin' out in the sun.

Mmm, I noticed. Many planets usually have some sound to them Even through the night. Space? The only noise you hear, is from the ship you're on.

They do have housing underground. Just not in the desert. Built into hill sides, in the north east area. I took up occupying one. [He shrugs a shoulder.] It's a little small, but it does what I want.

And what a damn fine ship you've got.

Where all the green is. [ There's just a touch of admiration in Cobb's voice. He does like the color green. ] Not sure why you'd need to bury somethin' when the weather's that good. Maybe I'll just start diggin' a hole for myself and make my own.

It started as a pile of junk. Took a lot of work, to get it where it is now. [He might sound a little reminiscent. He might be missing his sports carship.] My last ship was also old. Pre-imperial Razor Crest.

Yes. It feels secure, and gives privacy. [Which are both important to Din. His helmet tilts and he huffs in amusement.] Perhaps it can be an example to others, if you do.

Most things on Tatooine do. [ He's amused. He's never heard Mando nostalgic before. ] You just love the classics, don't you? You'd have to come all the way to the Outer Rim just to find parts for somethin' like that.

Or they think I'm some crazy old man. Which is only half true.

Yes. My current ship was built on Tatooine. A mechanic...friend in Mos Eisley found it somewhere. It was supposed to be a replacement for the Razor Crest. She...managed to convince me to keep it. After we built it. [Because Din was not thrilled about it at first. But at that point, it didn't take much to convince him.

He makes a vague gesture with the hand resting on the table.] Pre-imperial surplus ships are off the grid. Makes them harder to find. [Which works out well for Din, who at times prefers not to be found.]

I'd worry that you got scammed because it's Mos Eisley but I've seen the ship. Can't say anything is wrong with her. I get it. The speed's addicting.

The New Republic doesn't ride your tail tryin' to get you to register the thing? [ He raises a skeptical eyebrow. ] Because they don't like folks off grid.

Thought I was at first. Didn't like it as a replacement, wanted another razor crest. Pelli has....a way of doing things.

[There's an annoyed huff at the mention of the New Republic. He doesn't have a high opinion of them.]

I usually manage to avoid them. When they do catch me, flipping the beacon on until they leave, is enough. They're ruining the outter rim with their lane laws.

Got a nephew in Mos Eisley. Could've sent you to him. He's a mechanic and would've worked to find you what you were lookin' for or something close. [ Cobb's smile turns rueful. ] I'd bet my last credit I can't get you out of that star fighter now though.

[ He chuckles and pours himself another drink. ] Well, gotta keep the trade going. It's the only thing the Core Worlds want from us. Certainly not going to waste their time actually doin' anything useful.

[Din tilts his helmet and nods.] I'll keep it in mind. If I ever need another ship. [At this point, it's a big if.] No. It's got it's usefulness. Even if it's still faster, than what I know to do with.

[That gets a snort of amusement out of him.] Found a reason to not ignore us. Funny how it's all for money.

[heypartner]

Ah hell, Mando, that's the point of a ship like that. You can outrun the stars in it. [ Is he a little envious? A little. He loves a good fast ride. ]

Of course it's for money. All the Core Worlds care about is credits and not where those credits come from or who suffers for 'em. [ He shakes his head. ] Don't get me started. You'll regret it.

[foundlingfather]

Hmm, I would take you for a flight. But it's not that big. [As it is, the N-1 barely fits him and Grogu.] Then you could get to see space.

[He waves a hand in understanding at the not getting Cobb started.]

I know some on Tatooine are liking the trade profits. Fett likes the help it's given for Espa.

[heypartner]

Can't even sit in your lap. [ He gives a sad shake of his head but his eyes are sparkling with amusement. ] Guess I'll stay planet side a little longer.

Good for Fett but the smaller settlements are still struggling.

[There's a huff of amusement.] Maybe with the pod open. Then again, you'd likely have an easier time, getting in and out of the seat. Than I do. [With all the armor it's a tight fit. But Din makes it work.]

Can they not bring wares to the city? To trade?

[heypartner]

You ever swing around again you can teach me to fly it. I'll take her for a spin myself. [ He toasts Mando but he doesn't believe for a second he'll see him again in Freetown. ]

The Jawas come around but most of the small places don't have enough to make the journey worthwhile. That's life out in the Wastes.

Let me drive your speeder, and it's a deal. [Of course the speeder wouldn't be as fast as the ship. But it's still pretty fast.]

Hmmm. What could be done to help the smaller ones?
