There aren't that many years between you being born and the Titanic sinking, are there?

I guess the closest comparison for me would be the Vietnam War.
Which started in '55; I'm not quite THAT old before that rumor gets spun out of control.
But it IS the closest thing I have to a giant tragedy that no one could shut up about when I was a kid.
Still remember having to move out of the city as a kid because of the protestors.

The Great War.
Sorry, World War One is probably a better comparison.
I wasn't around for the Titanic but I remember what it was like after the war pretty well.

Yeah, I know a thing or two about the aftermath of that one.
Inflation at an all time high, the Spanish flu running around, communism becoming a thing, and my personal favorite story about dear old dad: His meteoric rise to fame and fortune that I will NEVER be able to outdo.
He really made it sound like a great time.

LOL course he never told you.

Howard Stark grew up broke as fuck on the Lower East Side.
His parents were Italian immigrants; his dad sold fruit, his mom worked in a factory, sewing shirts I think it was.
By the mid-30s he was out, but.
If anyone was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, it's me. Not him.

No, wait, that's wrong. He talked about himself a lot.
But he never talked about family.
I don't know why he wouldn't tell me.

He was saving those stories for the 1970s when he could use them to make me feel like a jackass, obviously.
