TEXTS FROM LAST NIGHT

Welcome to Folkmore's Texts From Last Night meme! This meme can be used as a branch off from our Test Drive Memes and be used as game canon or just for casual fun in the setting! You do not need to be in our game or be invited to play on our TFLN. This can be a great way to meet current players for future invites, get a feel for the setting, or just have some fun.

This can be used for samples on our applications and used as spoons for players accepted into the game!

In that light, it is understandable. A boat is a useful means of transport across water, in the absence of a proper ship.

You have never had a personal possession, prior to this boat?

No, never. The only things I've had were the clothes I wore, and those technically belong to a dead man.

But hang on, what do you mean, "a proper ship?"

How did that come to be? I have heard of several cultures who make a tradition of non-ownership or communal ownership of objects, but that does not seem to be the case here.

I used imprecise terminology. By a proper ship, I meant a ship of the variety I am used to, propelled through the air without touching a surface. A skimmer, traditionally, or on my home planet, a desert flyer.

Well, traditions of object ownership don't usually apply to objects that are owned themselves.

Through the air... Your planet must be pretty advanced!

[ Ah. A glimmer of understanding. ]

Under the traditions of my home, no sentient being is considered an object.

Where I'm from, the sentience of A.I. is still a bit of a legal grey area.

[ He's talking to an actual seemingly-sentient A.I. Fascinating. ]

Understood. I also know A.I. to be swathed in murky legal precedent. Here, it seems, there are no set codes or laws regarding any of this. If there are, I have not yet encountered them.

It seems that you may choose your own destiny.

Or, at the very least, your own boat.

I'm not so sure there are any codes or laws about anything here. It's all a bit devious and chaotic.

Do you really think it's a good idea?
The boat, I mean.

No, I do not. Basic research suggests that boats require a great deal of maintenance, and tend to be purchased in middle-age by human men looking to have some control over a life they feel they haven't been living due to what they see as external factors.

I believe the term is "midlife crisis."

Read me like a book, why don't you?

Though I'm not sure if I'd qualify any crisis I have to be "midlife."

While the term did originate to describe the period after a human's children have the left the home, prompting a re-evaluation of their priorities, I believe it has become more widely-used. Regardless, a rethinking of core values would be a more efficient way to solve the core issue.

Rethink my core values? How do you mean?
I'm not sure I can change my core programming just by giving things a good think.

Perhaps meditation. It is always a useful exercise to check that your behavior and your choices align with your long-term goals. For many, it is quite easy to act on instinct alone, without considering the weight of their actions.
