October 2025 Story of Us

Story of Us: October 2025
Table of Contents
Hello Folkies! This is our monthly Story of Us post where we get together to make game announcements, ask for any feedback or suggestions, and remind our players of upcoming dates! This update covers 13th October - 12th November.
Contents
Trial Consequences & Continuing Effects
Over the last month, Folkmore experienced:
  • Dreadful mist at the border of Exile that caused memories of potential exile to be experienced again. Everyone choosing exile in the mist means passing and an easier time navigating Exile. Anyone involved choosing not to be exiled means failing and further dangerous challenges in Exile.
  • The choice to participate in deciding the route of the Encantado River by transporting jewels from the old riverbed to the new or water from the new to the old. Both involved challenges!
  • Black cutting snow on the borders of Exile. When cut, fog seeped into the wounds and caused hallucinations. Discussing the hallucinations with another Star Child was the only way to get rid of them for good.
  • Engraved suits of armor around Folkmore. Legends could even find ones with their name on it. The armor came with notes of an unfinished quest. Myths and Familiars could choose easily whether to listen, but armored Legends were compelled to complete it. In Exile, one came to face a monster protecting a tree of apples. The monster could be 'defeated' many ways, making one get a gold or silver apple.
  • The wolves of winter surged out of Wintermute and Exile, hunting everything, and turning their kills into members of their pack—welcome members. Star Children used light, fire, the armor, and the apples to fight them. The silver and gold apples helped turn Star Children back to themselves, if their wolf form ate them.
These led to the following lasting consequences:
  • The Encantado River now forks and comes back together along both the old and new path. It has created a large, large island in the middle. Both halves of the river have stabilized and flow normally.
These effects continue:
  • Exile mostly welcomes exiles back, but it's slightly less friendly to them than before.
Iteration Iteration
Thirteen's iteration Amrita starts to lead Folkmore. Star Children can tell by Amrita setting up communal gardens and inviting Star Children to make use of them.

Star Children may contact Amrita via finding her around Willow, making a flower crown or willow wreath and mentally focusing the message into it, or leaving a letter in a carved gourd no longer alive.

Weather & New Environmental Effects
  • It's nearly always raining. Most frequently, it's a drizzle. However, the rain can grow heavy into thick sheets, especially at the borders between regions. In Willow, the rain helps crops grow, and it's a bumper year for the farmers. The farmers' market has more goods than ever, which means they last longer (those lucky later sleepers). Combine that with the communal gardens, and there is no shortage of food in Folkmore. Spirits are happy to share, even for free. No one will go hungry.
  • The rain doesn't quite reach past Cruel Summer's borders, but the nights get cold there.
  • The rain turns to sleet in Wintermute, and travel there can be miserable. It doesn't bother the sled dogs who show up at Akhlut Station to pull people where they need to go even faster.
  • The wind is strong in Never Fade, blowing through the tunnels powerfully. Watch your step there, as it's easier than ever to fall out the bottom of the island. The spirits in the dangerous parts of the tunnels are more agitated and likely to attack.
  • On the 27th, an eerie silence falls over Folkmore. It emanates from Exile until it reaches Wintermute and Tides by mid-afternoon. The silence blankets everything so no noises can be heard anywhere for the rest of the day. Sound returns by dawn of the 28th.
Announcements
More News to Come
  • Regarding the bigger picture of the state of Folkmore, we (the mods) are very invested in this lovely game! We've started working on what comes next over this last month and have so many feelings, ideas, and plans we could not put them into words yet. Perhaps in the next Story of Us, we will! Until then, let's summarize by saying that we hope to see Folkmore flourish. We hope that you, the players, feel the same.
Reminders
  • Have questions about anything going on? Need an update on a question that slipped between the cracks? Ask them here.
