Trial Consequences & Continuing Effects
Over the last month, Folkmore experienced:
- Forced teleportation to Never Fade to light and aim the beacon in a lighthouse via positive or negative interactions.
- Forced teleportation to defend a skyship from pirate attack.
- Star Children changing into alternate versions of themselves due to folded time ribbons.
- Star Children arriving in the Shattered Spoon Shrine, instead of the normal way.
- Cracks throughout Folkmore, into which people could fall and disappear. Or simply become more clumsy.
- The decision whether to keep and stabilize the cracks or to banish the cracks and stabilize Folkmore.
- The ability to help close the largest crack in Never Fade through a waking dream.
These led to the following
lasting consequences:
- Star Children supported stabilizing the realm overwhelmingly. Lavender leads the effort to close and banish the cracks.
- First cracks seal, becoming golden lines again. Then they lessen and vanish.
- Star Children no longer arrive via the Shattered Spoon Shrine.
These
effects continue:
- Lavender's ritual takes about a week to complete. During that time, Star Children may partake in the same ritual from Never Fade across Folkmore. Most cracks are easier to close.
Thirteen's iteration Baba Yaga starts to lead Folkmore. It's hard for Star Children to tell immediately. Exile is unfriendly to old Star Children, but Star Children old and new cannot locate the school Baba Yafa this month. The arrivals in Exile and activity there is the main clue she's taken over. Star Children could be excused for not noticing as Lavender continues their ritual over the course of a week.
Star Children may contact Baba Yaga via magical communication spells. They reach a magical voicemail like system. The greeting is a chorus of foxes, bats, spiders, squirrels, and more yipping, screeching, and howling together. One of these small creatures may follow Star Children around after they leave a message. However, they appear unable to talk or understand speech.
Weather & New Environmental Effects
- The localized storms peter off, and other than the Encantado, the rivers calm down. Instead, Folkmore is filled with a thick fog. It's hard to navigate in the fog, which foils all visual abilities (technological or magical) to see more than an arm's length in front of you.
- The temperature is otherwise normal for the regions, so Cruel Summer is hot and humid, Willow temperate and muggy, Wintermute cold and sharp, Never Fade soft and moist. There is no fog in Tides, but the air is extremely humid. There is no fog in Exile but a thick antagonistic mist at its borders.
- Within the fog are helper creachers that can guide the way. They can take the shape of any animal, but their head is replaced by a fog light. Any Star Child that treats them with respect can reach their destinations more quickly with their help.
- The fog is clearest around 11 am, and all the spirits and shops of Willow, Epiphany, and Never Fade take to drinking tea with cakes and other tasty treats at that time. They're all affordable and become cheaper the closer it gets til 1 pm.
- On the first of September, it rains. The raindrops sound like clinking bells when they hit something, and together they make a beautiful but sad melody.
