Excerpts from A General History of Spirits and Spiritual Energy Chapter IX: Bonds:

CODED BY TESSISAMESS

When we face challenge after challenge, get ground nearly to dust, and waver in our resolve to continue, when friendship and companionship cannot shoulder the burden, the appearance of someone most unlike us—someone we disagree with wholeheartedly, someone we face in battle, someone whose triumph we cannot tolerate—can push us to carry on. When love does not avail, spite will suffice. The potential between two individuals can push and pull them ever greater toward their goals. A Legend and a Myth can dedicate themselves to each other via the same simple ritual as a Familiar Bond.✱
Once the bond is formed, the Legend and Myth can push or pull energy between them, enabling them to reach more heights. The energy naturally flows more easily to the Myth. Some say the Legend faces greater risks, as they are more likely to lose power in the early stages—or altogether. However, Myths also should beware. Take too much power for too long and the bond will break. This break snaps energy back toward the party that has lost their energy, and this process sometimes returns more power than belonged to them originally. In the face of the risk of losing power, temporarily or permanently, why would anyone partake in this ritual? This flow of energy has the potential to push their limits further and increase the power of both parties. That is the power of an Unfamiliar Bond.

The near constant in all stories is the power and potential of companionship: friends, family, near strangers thrown together in danger, anyone with whom ones forges a serious bond. Chance may throw people together, but their choices forge the bond between them and see them through. These kinds of bonds may be endless, yet there is a common thread between them that contains incredible potential, so much so that it may be argued to be the original bond: the Familiar Bond. Familiars, famously better balanced and situated orthogonal to Legends and Myths, are well suited to helping others with their emotional stability, openness to different ideas, flexibly logic, and lack of a burning cause of their own. Their dedication to a Legend or Myth can fulfill their potential and their partner's. Both parties must consent to the bond and dedicate themselves to each other. The words are not particular, but the intent must be clear and reciprocated. Once the dedications are exchange, the bond is formed.
Familiar Bonds are exceptionally strong, so that there is no known means of breaking them. It is rumored divine intervention may suffice, but no one should rely on it. That matters especially because each Familiar bond manifests uniquely within each bond. Some partners may sense each others emotions or thoughts, share memories or dreams, or rumors abound a hundred different other ways. There may be as many different manifestations as there are Familiar Bonds. Everyone ought to be sure of their dedication and committed, whatever their manifestation may be. The only surety is that they will never be wholly alone again. That is the power of a Familiar Bond.

That's right, new lore just dropped. This information is first discovered by Steven Grant but will spread across all of Folkmore. Once Star Children know, Legends and Myths can form Unfamiliar bonds. Have fun and ask any questions below!
Unfamiliar Bonds
Unfamiliar Bonds
- Per this passage discovered in the library, it is revealed that a bond can be formed between a Legend and a Myth—an Unfamiliar Bond.
- The bond is formed by a Legend and a Myth confirming they are each other's Myth/Legend in whatever language they please. The intent is what matters. Both parties must consent.
- In this bond, a Legend and Myth share energy/power. Naturally, there's an even split between the two. When one party has more energy, they have more power behind the abilities they already have (Role abilities and canon abilities), while the other party has less.
- The Legend and Myth do not share their abilities, only the power behind them.
- The balance tilts more toward Myths naturally. Star Children may learn better control, energy flow, and connection over time.
- If either party takes all of the energy/power for too long, the bond will break. When it breaks, energy snaps back to each person, and the selfish one may lose some of their energy to the other person. That will last for some time, possibly permanently. It takes work to fix.
