[ 2022 Check-in Page2023 Check-in Page2024 Check-in PageFull Navigation ]

We do not require traditional "activity" check-ins, but we do require an interest check-in to ensure that our players are present and still engaged with the characters they play.

You will be required to check-in during the 1-8th of the month. If you cannot access a computer during this time, please let a mod or friend know so they can check-in for you.

You must check in your individual characters. If you fail to check in with any characters, they will be swept from the game.

If you missed check-in due to extenuating circumstances, please contact the mods ASAP and let them know the situation.

We ask our players to be active in the game even without formal activity check requirements. If we notice any concerning patterns with the same players missing check-ins and being swept from the game or being irresponsible with check-ins or squatting we will contact the player directly. This may include restrictions from reapplication into the game or actual activity requirements.

Please respect your fellow players and mods! We want to keep this game activity-requirement-free and active.

Anatomy Of Check-In

Every player will have an overall check-in comment with their name as the subject line. Every character a player writes will have a comment with their name and fandom as the subject line. Each month, players need to post a comment under each character's comment with the month and year in the subject line.

The comment structure will look like:
🦊 Player Name
🦊 Character Name | Fandom
🦊 Month Year
🦊 Month Year
🦊 Character Name | Fandom
🦊 Month Year
🦊 Month Year
Check-in Content

Check-in comments are IC only, and are required to include a minimum of one specific thing your character did this month. You're welcome to include more.

Formatting is your choice: sentences, bullet points, something else. We're not picky!

We do not want links to threads, OOC explanations, or apologies. Folkmore is a chill game, and it's completely fine to have not played much.

We welcome and encourage handwaving. Give us something your character did in the background or plans you have to back thread. Note handwaved interactions you discussed with other players. Many players use their check-in posts as records of important beats their characters experienced.

The bottom line is to show you have some OOC idea what is going on IC, even when you're not actively able to RP, to demonstrate your continued engagement in the game with the character.

JANUARY 2025

[personal profile] antimetabole 2025-02-03 07:05 am (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Vergil
Player Name: Crystal
Summarized Activity: January overall has been a quieter month for Vergil relative to December, but there were still moments here and there continuing some of that energy for him.

January started with Vergil receiving an SOS from Dante that he needed Vergil to come bring him home. Like a good big brother, Vergil dropped everything that he was doing to collect his brother and bring him safely home to learn that Dante lost control while in his demonic form. Unfortunately, beyond bringing him home and acknowledging the differences in the way they relate to their demonic heritage, Vergil felt his hands were tied. In the past when Vergil offered his perspective or help, Dante at best brushed him off and at worst responded with anger. At this point, Vergil is privately concerned that something terrible is on the horizon if Dante does not resolve this matter once and for all. From Vergil's perspective, this may be what drives a wedge between brothers when Vergil can no longer sit on his hands or hold his tongue, or Dante will finally cross a line that he cannot walk back from. So, while Vergil agreed to some sparring with Dante after Dante summoned DSD, there is some underlying concern for Vergil about Dante amassing more demonic power right now. The shoe is very strangely on the other foot.

Shortly thereafter, Vergil overheard Nero stumbling towards his bathroom in the middle of the night and discovered his son burning up with a fever. Nero was a little stubborn at first about letting Vergil take care of him, but he eventually recognized he felt too poorly to really put up much of a fight about it. Eventually, Nero shared parts of the nightmare he had with Vergil, and subsequently shared more about Credo, his late mentor and brother figure. While Vergil certainly felt anger over Credo's betrayal of Nero and would be hard-pressed to forgive the man for it, he kept most of that to himself to make space for Nero to talk about the unanswered questions he was left with when Credo died before they could speak after his betrayal. They didn't spend all night talking of Nero's nightmare or his broken relationship with Credo, however. Eventually, Nero worked up the nerve to ask Vergil to read poetry to him. Vergil accepted the request and continued to read until Nero fell asleep curled up in Vergil's lap, eventually dozing off himself. But the parts of his nightmare that Nero kept to himself would eventually come back later during this month's trial.

With no pun being intended here, the train trial was quite the ride for Vergil. His patience was put to the test while solving puzzles with One and Oleandra on the milder end of challenges. It also goes without saying that Mishima family drama certainly dwarfs the dramas Vergil's had with his own family in some aspects, but it gave him a little more insight into the man who has been so eager to fight since his arrival. However, it wasn't until the challenges with Mizu and Nero that Vergil was really put through his paces.

With the emotional challenge with Mizu, Vergil was presented with a life that had so much of what he could have ever wanted, including having the opportunity to raise Nero alongside Nero's mother for at least part of Nero's childhood, a positive relationship with his little brother that was never torn apart by their separation, and their mother living beyond the day their family home was attacked. For better or for worse, Vergil remained level-headed about it, acknowledging that the reality they found themselves was an illusion crafted from their desires and memories rather than based in something true. And a good thing, too, as he found himself frustrated by how quickly Mizu seemed to be willing to play along with the illusion for the sake of her revenge. Vergil made his stance known that he felt any information presented here would be utterly useless, giving voice to an anxiety about losing her. While Vergil refuses to stand between Mizu and her revenge, and remains ultimately supportive of her seeking it in the manner she deems the most appropriate, Vergil also cannot idly stand by and allow her to potentially throw her life away for nothing. So, the challenge truly lived up to its label as emotional as Vergil walked away missing his mother a little more acutely than normal, his heart irrationally aching at Mizu's acknowledgment that she is unable to have what she wants, and having to grapple a lot more firmly with just how deeply he's attached himself to Mizu.

For now, the majority of it is something he has set aside, not wanting to dwell and stew in those emotions at the potential cost of missing what is in front of him now. Thus, as anonymously as he could, he's used his Lore to summon Kai, Mizu's horse. Rather than presenting the horse to her himself, Vergil opted to not take such overt credit. After what happened to Kai and Mizu in their world, he thought it was better that Kai feels wholly hers rather than something gifted and easily taken away again. As for the rest of Vergil's feelings unrelated to Mizu, he's had a little time to chat with Trish in at least acknowledging such feelings of missing his mother in the aftermath of the trial exist in the first place.

As for the physical challenge with Nero, Vergil immediately and without question refused to engage in a physical contest with Nero. Falsely, he assumed that would be the beginning, middle, and end of it, but upon their failure of the trial, Nero was unusually quiet. Not exactly known for his ability to begin conversations, Vergil mostly tied himself in knots trying to figure out what was wrong and how best to handle it. Eventually, he simply remarked how quiet Nero was, and that was the ticket to hearing directly from Nero just how badly the setting and scenario of the physical challenge shook him. But it was not just a releasing of anxieties! It was also an appreciation for the fact that Vergil made good on his promise never to harm Nero, not even for his own benefit or self-preservation. While Nero acknowledges that he still has a ways to go before he can shake all of his doubts and mistrust—most of which has to do with the way others have betrayed him rather than anything Vergil has done—the pair were ultimately brought a little closer together as Vergil could readily understand why Nero would hesitate to believe him until he saw it for himself. It breaks Vergil's heart to know Nero holds such similar reservations about other people as Vergil does, but he still holds hope that someday, Nero will be able to trust him completely.

FEBRUARY 2025

[personal profile] antimetabole 2025-02-28 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Vergil
Player Name: Crystal
Summarized Activity: February on an OOC level has been more focused on backtags and concluding older threads. Therefore, the vast majority of what Vergil has been up to for the month of February has been more going about his daily business rather than getting up to hijinks or wrapped up in Kuma Lisa's bar.

Around Valentine's Day, Vergil spent a lot of time with Nero given that the latter was feeling so down about his girlfriend not being around. Some of the time was spent at home, but Vergil also was often seeking excuses to get Nero out of the house and doing something even if it was something small like going food shopping. It was not a particularly big deal to him to "sacrifice" the holiday to spend time with his son. Valentine's Day, after all, doesn't really mean much to Mizu or Vergil, but even if it did, he would still spend the time with Nero so he didn't have to sit in that sadness all by himself.

Besides, it's not like Mizu didn't or couldn't pull Vergil away other times of the month. Especially now that she has Kai and is interested in riding horses with him. While it would be a bit too much to say Vergil lacks any and all appreciation for it, Vergil doesn't share the same level of passion for it as Mizu does. But this is Mizu's equivalent to poetry and it makes her happy, so Vergil is willing to indulge her. It meant having to learn how to ride a horse on the fly, of course, but the basics aren't that hard to master. And honestly, even if he doesn't share the passion for it, far be it from Vergil not to put 110% into learning something. Which was likely a bit of a shoe on the other foot for Mizu, who has never really had the opportunity to watch Vergil learn anything.

Dante also surprised Vergil with a home-cooked meal, which included not only a main dish, but dessert and an appropriately paired wine to go along with it. Dante made quite the mess in the kitchen and of himself in the process of making the meal. A "threat" has been made that something like this could happen again in the future, and while Vergil is not necessarily looking forward to having a kitchen to clean again, Dante didn't do bad at all with his cooking. And he looked pretty pleased with himself, too. It was nice seeing Dante in higher spirits for a change.

APRIL 2025

[personal profile] antimetabole 2025-05-01 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Vergil
Player Name: Crystal
Summarized Activity: After a month of going about his business with little interruption from the goings-on of Folkmore in March, April appears to be succeeding at its duty of setting the stage for what is surely to come in May and beyond.

Near the beginning of the month, while sleeping alone in his own bed, Vergil had a nightmare that pulled him from sleep. It's not a novel experience given all that Vergil's experienced in his lifetime, but newer, more irrational anxieties presented themselves in the dream. On the one hand, they do reflect just how much closer Vergil has grown to be with his son. But on the other, there are kinder ways that point could have been driving home. If bent on that direction, contending with the thought of Nero turning his back on Vergil when Vergil needed Nero and allowed himself to reach out would have been enough discomfort. The notion of Nero suffering the same fate as Vergil had in becoming a puppet for the demon king, Mundus, however? While Vergil had every intention of settling himself back down without disturbing anyone else in the house, Nero happened to still be awake and he wasn't about to let Vergil slink off back to his bedroom by himself.

With some honeyed toast and chamomile tea, Nero helped Vergil settle back down from his nightmare. Although Vergil never spoke about the dream itself—the context wasn't anything Vergil wished to discuss—he did part with Nero how much it feels that he is still trying to pick up where he left off in his life, highlighting further the importance of the book of Blake's poems that Vergil left behind for Nero back in their own world. Their conversation eventually wandered into more pleasant directions about childhood experiences and Nero even managed to score some information on the sorts of movies and music Vergil likes. Before they went to sleep though, Vergil finally told his son that he loves him, and after the shock wore off, Nero did the same in return.

Nero has Mizu to thank for Vergil's directness in saying he loves him given how his more indirect approach with Mizu in the beginning certainly did not land, but his direct approach strengthened their connection to one another. The pair continue to share in their intimacy with one another since that mutual vulnerability all those months ago, with Mizu confessing that she used discarded items of Vergil's when she reforged her sword. Her acknowledgment of how much she wants Vergil to be near to her in some way didn't come as a particular surprise to Vergil, but unbeknownst to him, Mizu was walking along a thin, dangerous line to the growing anxieties she has about their relationship long-term. They are similar to the ones that Vergil also possesses, but manages to distract himself from in doting on Mizu as much as he does.

Regarding Vergil's relationship with Dante, the brothers continue to generally get along. Dante still makes himself a nuisance when Vergil is trying to read, but Vergil still took the time to bring Dante out to a bar arcade for an evening of fun. It's far from the sort of place Vergil would willingly go himself, but after a few months ago when Dante made Vergil an entire meal, the elder son of Sparda felt he ought to return the favor in some capacity. So, one night in a place where it looks like the 80's vomited on it to give his brother a night of fun is an easy sacrifice to make. And who knows? Perhaps there's a family trip in the future.

Lastly, it would appear that Thirteen has decided Vergil makes for an appropriate welcoming committee for newer arrivals from his world. He would beg to differ, but there wasn't much else that he could do in either circumstance. He couldn't leave Kyrie to wander about in Wintermute and so inappropriately dressed for the climate. So, he had to tolerate a mildly rock and awkward start with the woman who is more or less his daughter-in-law while ensuring her safe delivery home to Nero. And while he could have chosen to ignore V altogether, Vergil ultimately decided that he would do this on his own terms rather than having some trial force him together with V in the future. Carrying that into the conversation, Vergil and V reached an agreement that each were to live their own lives with neither beholden to the other beyond one promise Vergil made: under no circumstances is V to do anything to Nero that puts him in harm's way for any reason. Vergil left V with both the bombshell of Nero being his son rather than nephew, but he also shared enough information for V to call on them if he should ever work up the nerve.

MAY 2025

[personal profile] antimetabole 2025-06-02 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Vergil
Player Name: Crystal
Summarized Activity: The beginning of May led Vergil to foolishly believe that it would be a relatively uneventful month for him as he largely went about his daily life. The only real "disruptions" to that bit of normalcy was acknowledging V's "birth" and a bit of a misunderstanding between himself and Oleandra.

Regarding V, Vergil used some of his saved up Lore to receive his childhood copy of a collection of Blake's poetry. V took his name from the letter Vergil etched on the cover to indicate it as his own, and found his own meaning with the book back in their world. So, it would seem only right that he should receive it as a gift on what is technically the anniversary of when he came to be. Vergil delivered it impersonally through a courier service, not necessarily wanting to invite a conversation about the matter or anything else, but V summoned upon his strength to track Vergil down. The two made for an unusual pair and conversation in the Catfé.

As for Oleandra, she seemed to take his recommendation of The Count of Monte Cristo a little personally, much to his confusion. She eventually cornered him outside of the library demanding answers, and although it started off a bit awkward and more than a little tense, the air was ultimately able to be cleared between the two of them.

And then he got sick.

While out training with Nero, Vergil began to feel symptoms of the Lore Sickness. He acquiesced to Nero's suggestion to call it for the day given that his overall poor performance wouldn't likely benefit Nero much, but he bristled at first over the way Nero wanted to take care of him. Unaccustomed to having someone looking out for him like that, Vergil didn't like the sense of vulnerability in being dependent upon someone else. Nero was largely able to get through to him that it was okay to allow the people who love him to take care of him, but that did not mean Vergil was much better as a patient. It wasn't very long before Vergil started growing stir-crazy, and trying to convince Nero and/or Mizu (not Kyrie though; he just accepted the soup and tea and company from her given how precarious all of that still feels to him) to let him leave the house. He was able to eventually convince Nero to take him for a couple of laps around the block if he felt up to it, and that appeased him greatly. In fact, Dante can likely thank Nero for continuing to breathe air because of that decision given that otherwise, Vergil was liable to strangle Dante for interrupting his sleep one night while also sick.

Contrary to his claims while he was sick, once he was well enough to spend the night at Mizu's again, he still hassled her to stay in bed for a few hours longer with him. He did spend a little more time out of the house after he recovered though. That much absolutely remained true.
