INTRODUCTION

Welcome to Folkmore's monthly Test Drive Meme! Please feel free to test drive any and all characters regardless of your intent to apply or whether you have an invite or not.

All TDMs are game canon. You can choose to have your TDM thread be your introduction thread upon acceptance or start fresh. Each TDM will provide a scenario for how characters arrive in-game that particular month.

Playing TDMs will allow characters to immediately obtain canon items from homes especially weapons or other things they may have had on their person when they were pulled from their worlds! There will always be a prompt that provides some sort of "reward" to characters who complete certain tasks.

Current players are allowed to have in-game characters react to TDMs via the Network or make a log with the prompts. Current players are always encouraged to tag new people on the TDM!

TDM threads can be used for spoon spending at any time by characters accepted into the game.

A PLACE IN THIS WORLD

Content Warnings: Possible insanity via cuts by thorns. Temporary nullification of abilities.

DEATH BY A THOUSAND CUTS

The world comes into focus in one sharp, overwhelming rush. You are laying on the ground surrounded by staggering walls of flowers of all types and colors. Their sweet scent fills the air and the sky above is clear, blue, beautiful, and endless. It would be easy to be lulled into a quiet nap in such a peaceful place. You can even hear a soft, disembodied voice singing songs from some unknown place all around you. After some time, this siren song creates an intense yearning that will eventually bring you to your feet and pull you forward. You are filled with the urge to find someone important. You may know who or you might just have some aimless, faceless person at the forefront of your mind.

All you know is that when you finally find them, you'll know. Is it love? Is it a friend you have always needed? The perfect enemy? Only time will tell, but for now, you must find them. The flower maze is dense and for now, it doesn't seem like flying out and above them is an option. If you try, you just wind up vaulted back into the maze. Nope! This trial is about using other means of exploration. Maybe you can destroy the flowers, but you will find that this flower field is apparently endless. If you get cut by thorns along the way, you will become increasingly hectic about finding this mystery person. Some have been thrown into insane desperation just looking for their People among the flowers.

But once you finally find them, you're both filled with relief and the flowers around you blossom wider. You can then treat the flower maze like a solvable puzzle and get your way out of it. However, some people spend a bit more time in the maze since once you do find your person or people, you will be stricken with the urge to talk to them, to "open up" about your yearning to find them...even if you've never met them before!

OUT OF THE WOODS

Just outside of the flower maze is a little festival set up just on the edge of Willow and partway into Epiphany! Little stalls of food and drinks have been set up - and we mean little! The good folk who set up these stalls are magical cats standing upright and wearing clothes like little people! All the stalls are cat-sized and so are the dishes and food - which means most of the people walking through will likely be quite a bit bigger! That's okay, the cat folk seem happy to serve you bigger or multiple helpings of their yummy soups and bread. None of them seem able to really communicate with the new arrivals, but that's okay, their cute meows are fun to listen to anyway.

The music is a bit more pronounced here and a handful of cat couples are dancing around. Don't be surprised if they encourage you to join in the dancing! Maybe you didn't actually find someone in the flower maze - if not, the cat folk will encourage you to dance with another new arrival to get to know them! Because apparently dancing with someone you don't know is a good formal introduction? Ah well. Sometimes it's just the idea that counts.

There will also be some supplies to help patch people up who have gotten a lot of cuts from the flower maze. Some of the bouts of insanity are probably still going a bit hectic, so you might want to lay down in the recovery area until you feel a bit more stable. Talking to people apparently helps with the stability, so maybe strike up a conversation with a fellow newbie?

ENCHANTED

Content Warnings: Optional selective amensia and/or altered sense of self, possible monster/creature violence, temporary enchantments, forced relocations.

LONG STORY SHORT

You're in a very unusual, specific outfit and in a place you might have seen once or twice in a storybook or in the imagination of your childhood. For some, you might pick up on what's happening immediately. For others, you might be so immersed in the role that you don't realize it - but you're featuring in a classic fairy tale. Maybe it's Sleeping Beauty or Little Red Riding Hood or Tale of the White Snake or The Mirror of Matsuyama. Either way, you're the main character or the main antagonist and it looks like you're going to have to play out the story with whoever you're stuck with!

The other person in the trial can either match up to the other side of the story or just arrive as themselves and have to play along. Trying to just abandon the trial is quite literally impossible! You're stuck in the weird woods or high tower and trying to "leave" just results in you going in repeated cycles until you wind up where you started. You have a role to fill and you might as well get used to playing roles in Folkmore! It's time to understand how these trials work. What lesson are you supposed to take away?

If you're grumbling about it or are left confused, don't worry! Thirteen will appear to those struggling and explain the situation: "You need to play out the story! C'mon. Everyone knows this story...Right? Well, whatever, it's obvious! If you play your part, I promise I'll give you something you want." Can you really trust a fox though? Especially the fox who brought you here? She laughs before you can really pester her for more information and vanishes in a burst of red dust. Foxes really are mischievous, aren't they...At least most fairy tales are incredibly short, basic, and straightforward so most people should be able to figure it out!

In theory.

DAYLIGHT

At least the Fox wasn't lying. When you complete the task of the story, the fairy tale world will melt into one of the settings in Folkmore and you will be brought back into the current reality. You will be left in the weird clothes, but fear not! A mystery trunk has appeared in front of you and whoever you completed the trial with. Inside the trunk, you will find some of your canon clothes and a few canon items. Nearby, there will be some weapons sticking out of the ground: basic swords, guns, shields, etc. These items might not be enchanted, but at least you have something to work with!

Better yet, you don't necessarily have to complete the Long Story Short prompt to find these trunks either! They seem to be dotted around Folkmore and you might find them just by virtue of exploration! The trunks seem to mysteriously know who is opening them so you won't find someone else's stuff by accident, but you might have to fight over who gets the sword in the stone...

A word of caution to those who grab the weapons...You will immediately be tested on how good you are with them. As soon as you have pulled them out of the ground, the ground will begin trembling and a serpent-like creature will form out of the ground. If you're in Wintermute, you have a sizeable icy creature to deal with. If you're in Cruel Summer, meet the fire-breathing snakey nightmare that's going to try and roast you alive. Don't think Epiphany or Willow will have gentler creatures! They might be covered in moss or flowers but they will hit just as hard. You have to defeat the angry creature - or try running for your life. They are relatively easy to beat and people without powers can manage if they are highly skilled or...really lucky...Or if someone far more capable finds them! Good luck. As a pro-tip, maybe don't pull weird swords out of the ground in the future.

DEATH BY THOUSAND CUTS

(Imagine this: you're walking along, enjoying your nice little flower maze walk of desperation or whatever, and then all of a sudden, there's a goddamn explosion that just absolutely blasts you the hell away. That or you see the explosion from afar. The plume of smoke rises and oh shit, is the field on fire? Better go check it out.

It's not actually on fire. Though it's crispy in a crater shape around one blonde guy whose hands are still smoking. He looks agitated as hell. The poor roses around him are completely destroyed.)

I'm not doing this goddamn shit again! (He starts shooting off small explosions at nearby flowers as if they have personally offended him. Which, to be fair, they kind of have.) Get the fuck outta my way. You useless shrubs.

(He's got this bushy blonde fox tail hanging between his legs and ears that are fluffed up. It's stupid. All of this is stupid. He wants out. This isn't even a real trial. Since when were mazes and flowers trials of anything?

He only stops popping off when he notices your poor soul.)

The hell are you looking at? (He's annoyed at the relief he feels at finding someone because, despite his attitude, he was still being hit hard with that desperation to Find Someone in the field.)

OUT OF THE WOODS

I'm not dancing with you.

(That's what you get for trying to ask Katsuki to dance. He's to the side, hands shoved into his pockets, looking completely sour at the very idea of dancing with anyone. He's never danced before in his life- okay. That's not actually true. He knew how to dance. Knew how to slow dance. Knew the basics. But what in the hell would he dance with a stranger for?!

The nearby cats yowl at Katsuki as if to shame him for his lack of enthusiasm.)

Shut up, hairballs. I'll neuter you! (He raises his hand, a small explosion popping off in the center of his palm. Please do not let him neuter the cats???!

He won't actually, but when they yowl louder, Katsuki absolutely leans towards them, getting increasingly angrier.)

Do you think I won't?! (Ugggh! What a pain...

If you're lucky, you might come across Katsuki at another time when he's less pissed off. He's kneeling on the ground over one of the cat's cauldrons of soup and using a small spoon and a small cutting board to chop up some ingredients. A cat is sitting on his shoulder, watching him intently, and his brow is furrowed in concentration.

After he adds the ingredients, he gives it a taste test before humming. Looking at you, he offers another small spoon.)

Closed to defendure - Long Story Short

(There is a clearing in a dense forest and sitting in the middle of that clearing is an ethereal-looking fox. It's not the fox at the beginning of the trial but instead is blonde in color with vivid red eyes. It seems to be lost in thought, staring intently into the woods, its predatory face sharp and alert, ears pricked.

When it hears something coming into the clearing, it gets to its feet, immediately alert, tail fluffing up and standing into the air. Its lips pull back as a deep snarl digs through its throat, head lowering to the ground. Despite its beautiful appearance, the creature was all hostility and nothing like an enchanted fairytale critter. This thing probably had rabies.

It's sure foaming at the mouth as it does. But then the moment it actually sees who is entering the clearing, its entire body is relaxing and it stops snarling. It still somehow manages to look pissed, but...

Listen, this fox is definitely somehow identical in appearance to Katsuki. Izuku would have to be an idiot to mistake it for anything else. Even the spikey fur was identical to Katsuki's normal hair.)

What?

[ Brad stops in his tracks as Katsuki offers him the spoon. He looks around, as if Katsuki might be talking to someone else. ]

Who, me?

[ There only seem to be more cats around them. Which, Katsuki could be offering it to them, but the cat on his shoulder is staring up at Brad, too, and Brad quickly crouches down ]

Yeah. Yeah, sure. Okay.

[ And he takes the spoon, and tries it ]

(Nope, it's you, buddy. Katsuki is giving him a flat look as if to say who the hell else would it be?)

Obviously, I mean you, dumbass. Take the spoon before it gets too cold!

(Have you ever just been aggressively nurtured or are you normal? Thankfully, Katsuki is actually like, a phenomenal cook, so the soup is delicious.

But he wants to actually hear that from a non-biased source.)

Well? (The cat and Katsuki are staring this guy down intensely. Give them that food review, Brad!)

[ Brad isn't too taken aback at being addressed like this. Mariner really acclimated him to it, insulting him every second sentence while also being his best friend. He's weirdly kind of into it, even if he doesn't think about it that way.

He does try it. He tries the soup, and is a little worried that it might be a prank, and is braced for that-- but it's good. Really good. His eyes widen and he looks at Katsuki, talking with the spoon still in his mouth: ]

Wow, that'sh grmate! [ He takes the spoon out of his mouth, gesturing at Katsuki with it ] Good umami flavor, nicely balanced. What'd you put in there?

(Honestly? Who can blame him? There's something spicy about having a friend who insulted you every five seconds. Or maybe they're just the weird outliers? Who cares. This dork doesn't even argue the point which means he's going to keep it up.

Actually, even if he did argue the point, he would have kept it up.

Katsuki wasn't one for pranks at least. He preferred his bullying and harassment to be direct and to the point. And he would never mess with food.

He looks proud when the guy clearly likes it.)

'Course it's fucking great. (He made it after all! You can see him swelling with pride.)

Thanks. (Then he laughs, the cat having to dig its little claws in to keep steady on his shoulder.) As if I'm goin' to tell ya! That shit's a secret recipe. I'll getchya a bowl though. Sit down.

It's just that I have acid reflux-- [ Brad starts, but then Katsuki is giving him a bowl and, well, he guesses he's eating it now. Sorry, intestines, you'll just have to deal, because this guy seems cool and Brad doesn't really have enough of a spine to say no at this point. And, really, if this guy is part of helping him find his potential, maybe eating this soup is part of the journey!

And, well. It does taste really good. ]

Did your friend help? [ He gestures to the cat with his spoon. It's probably rude not to address the cat directly, but here we are ]

(Hmmm...Acid reflux...)

Get a better stomach. (Okay, Katsuki. Because that's an optional cure for acid reflux. Eat it, organs. Literally, eat it.

That's probably one of the nicest internal thoughts anyone has ever had about Katsuki. Izuku does not count. He's an idiot which means this guy might be an idiot too. All the same, Katsuki seems pleased that he's eating his soup. The only love language he has ever known has been feeding people and...kind of nagging the absolute hell out of them.

This is the better option.)

Ha?! This little bitch right here? (He points to the cat, who just blinks rather sweetly at being called a 'bitch.' It was the only cat who has tolerated Katsuki this whole time.) Hell no. She was just a leech the whole time. (But a cute one so Katsuki had allowed her to stay. He drags her off his shoulder by the scruff and then just proceeds to hold her against his chest. She snuggles in. He ignores it, but after a moment, pets her.)

Anyway...It shouldn't bother your stomach too much.

[ When he woke up here he was sure he was sleeping. Nothing felt real, everything seemed maybe too perfect? Too nice? This place had too much of a dreamlike quality to it to ever be real right?

Not to mention that weird feeling in his chest drawing him on to walk through this flowery maze to find anyone. That part of him yearned to talk to someone but the other part of his mind wanted to fight against it. He didn't like being compelled to do anything, especially talking to a stranger.

So, when he comes across a few explosions and a spikey-haired blond boy, he's cursing his luck.

Especially at that introduction. Oh. So it's gonna be like that. ]

I dunno. A toddler throwing a tantrum? Not really sure. Mind filling me in? [ Yup. Starting off sarcastic. ]

(Katsuki felt like he had been yanked from a pivotal moment in his life. Completely taken from an ability to fix something important and that? That was why he was as mad as he was. He had already been through this floral bullshit before and he can't help but wonder when he would finally find the bastard he was looking for.

That's when this asshole comes along. He's bitter about the sense of comfort he's given on sight because frankly, the flowers are still impacting him and he can't help but be relieved.)

I don't see any toddlers around here. (Yes, he knows this guy is talking about him, but for the sake of sparing Glitch his life, Katsuki is gonna ignore that. Though he does send a crackle of micro explosions off between his fingers as a subtle threat.

He's matured so much!)

I'm lookin' for someone important. The fuck is it to you, Smurf? (Get it??? Because...blue hair...)

[ It's hard not to feel that sense of relief wash over him when the guy actually addresses him. At the very least he's not imagining there is another person here. However, it's also mixed in with that sense of annoyance of having to talk with a stranger...one that was clearly hostile.

The small explosions does catch his eye, but whether or not he feels threatened by it? He doesn't let it show on his face. He takes note and then looks back towards them.]

Then maybe stop losing your shit. 'Cause I'm pretty sure that ain't helping anybody.

[ The insult against him doesn't really land. Mostly because, what's a smurf? It only gets a casual eyebrow raise as he walks closer to them. ]

Yeah and so am I. Figured I'd see what this was all about and if it'd lead me to that person.

I'd say it's pretty fuckin' natural to lose your shit if you got randomly abducted by some fox bitch. First time being kidnapped?

(Listen. Katsuki has been here. Multiple times and he's over it. Since when did the universe decide to paint a target on his face and get him snatched up in every other story arc?!

Probably karma slapping him across the face but that's not his problem, damn.)

Anyway, if I was really losing my shit, none of these flowers would be left standing.

(So. Be grateful??????

It's okay. All of Katsuki's insults are genuinely terrible and one-dimensional. Pretty much no one is actually offended by any of them.)

What are you gonna do if I'm actually that person? (Because. He...kind of thinks this guy might be the person he was looking for. It felt right.)

[ what.

the hell!

Kaneki just wanted to leave this flower field, he just wanted to go home! And suddenly there are explosions and angry blonds. And although Kaneki was trying to find someone, he is considering just... running away.

Because this person looks dangerous.

But he is spotted! And Kaneki jumps in place a little before he rises his hands slightly, attempting a peaceful gesture ] I-I'm sorry, I'm a bit lost.

[ please don't kill him. Why does Kaneki always end up in situations like this? ]

Haaa?! (Katsuki roars this rather than says it like a normal person. To be fair, he was plucked from his canon at a very critical point. He's antsy and furious and the last thing he is expecting is some one-eyed wimp to show up.

He's bent over, looking half like a feral creature, literally snarling, and some small part of him is a little feral now thanks to the Familiar upgrade.

But...At the end of the day, Katsuki is a hero through and through. Just not the most empathetic one. Still! He winds up stomping toward the shrimp-dicked guy, and listen, he's way bigger than he normally is right now because Familiar. So the intimidation game is probably real.)

Then I'll help you out. (Do....you really even want help from this kind of person though....)

[ no, kaneki sure does not want help from this person. he is pretty sure this person will drag him to some bush and murder him.

Which is funny because Kaneki is a ghoul and others should be thinking exactly that about him. But!!!

But katsuki looks scary- He is huge and he seems to be part-animal, and he is blowing things up. kaneki doesn't know this place or its people, and what everyone else is capable of (he still thinks this might be a dream). So he is a bit wary - way too many people have tried to kill him before and he doesn't want that happening again.

So he takes a small step back and offers a nervous smile ] Ah-- I'm sure I just missed a turn. I mean, it's a flower field, right? [ how hard can it be to get out of there ]

How the hell do you miss a turn in a flower field? Are you stupid?

(That's a sincere question. What does he know? Maybe Kaneki is a special case and is easily confused by colors. It's okay though, Kaneki. Literally, no one ever wanted to be saved by Katsuki back home either. He never did get a good vote ratio on hostage situations...)

No. You look hopeless. I'm coming with you.

[ Is he stupid? he feels stupid, for sure.

When he is called "hopeless", kaneki just stays there, staring at the other. WELL- OKAY??? He is not hopeless, he is just confused and possibly in danger!! ]

Uhm... okay. [ if he suddenly just started running it'd be bad, right? And weird. Maybe this cat person comes from a place where this sort of thing is normal, maybe blowing up things when you are mad is just... normal.... ]

I'm just going to walk until the flower field ends, though. [ he doesn't have a specific direction to head to ]

(It's okay, Kaneki. No one actually feels emotionally great whenever they are around Katsuki.

Don't run! Katsuki would just chase. And not even because he was that batshit crazy, but because his new familiar instincts would kick in full throttle and he'd just feel the urge to...sprint after him?

Wow, he's a fox!!! He gives the guy a flat stare.)

What if you meet something more unpleasant than me? What will you do?

[ kaneki does feel the urge to run, after all he would probably be faster, right? Maybe not.

But he is still following and Kaneki apparently is no good at shaking him off.

However, Ken pauses when Katsuki mentions that last part ] Something... like what? [ does he know something kaneki doesn't know? ]

[ Izuku's still getting his bearings here. The sudden magical forest, the way he's wearing...much nicer than usual clothing. Kind of Ren Faire in vibe to him, soft and pretty clothes for the son of a very rich and royal family. He came here chasing a golden ball.

...Well, he came here accidentally following one anyway. But Izuku stops cold when he sees the fox, at first thinking it's the same one before his eyes widen. ]

Kacchan? [ But no, surely that isn't the case... ]

(There's this sugary smell of caramel filling the air. It's as alluring as it is enchanting. And then Katsuki opens his mouth:)

When the hell did you get so tall?!

(Yup, he has noooo idea he's a fox right now. When the Fox had appeared to tell him about his Trial, he had told her to piss off and stormed right on by. That's on him.

Also???????! What is Izuku wearing?)

I-I haven't gotten any taller than I was last time you saw me though?

[ Also. He's wearing fantasy prince clothes. Isn't he stunning.

...Why isn't he mentioning the fox thing? Because he's like...wandering closer, sniffing the air a bit. ]

(He actually is and it's kind of pissing Katsuki off.

Katsuki finds himself mimicking Izuku and sniffing at the air too. He realizes he can smell way more than he usually could. He can smell the depth of the earth, the plants, and more importantly, Izuku. It's not just his shampoo or anything - it's something isolated to Izuku himself. Unique and identifiable.

That's when he realizes he's looking down his own nose. His fur puffs up.)

...Am I a fucking fox?!

A-a really pretty fox!

[ Izuku says, like that's making it at all any better? Izuku??? Why would Katsuki give a shit about that???

And yet, that's what he's saying first. He wants to die, clearly. ]

Don't call me pretty, shitty nerd! (If he was a human right now...

But he's not! So his fur just puffs up even more. Why wasn't he something bigger? Like a wolf? He tries to jerk upright and just winds up doing one of those cute fox jumps. Which results in him jumping right onto Izuku's shoes.

It's partly Katsuki's natural instinct from who he is as a person and his new instincts as a fox, but he winds up grabbing a mouthful of Izuku's pantleg and just shaking it furiously. This is pretty much harmless, but there's a bit of smoke coming out of his mouth so he should probably be stopped...)
