We do not require traditional "activity" check-ins, but we do require an interest check-in to ensure that our players are present and still interested in the characters they play.

You will be required to check-in during the 1-8th of the month. If you cannot access a computer during this time, please let a mod or friend know so they can check-in for you.

You must check in your individual characters. If you fail to check in with any characters, they will be swept from the game.

If you missed check-in due to extenuating circumstances, please contact the mods ASAP and let them know the situation.

We ask our players to be active in the game even without formal activity check requirements. If we notice any concerning patterns with the same players missing check-ins and being swept from the game or being irresponsible with check-ins or squatting we will contact the player directly. This may include restrictions from reapplication into the game or actual activity requirements.

Please respect your fellow players and mods! We want to keep this game activity-requirement-free and active.

Anatomy Of Check-In

Every player will have an overall check-in comment with their name as the subject line. Every character a player writes will have a comment with their name and fandom as the subject line. Each month, players need to post a comment under each character's comment with the month and year in the subject line.

Check-in Content

Check-in comments are IC only, and are required to include a minimum of one thing your character did this month. You're welcome to include more.

Formatting is your choice: sentences, bullet points, something else. We're not picky!

We do not want links to threads, OOC explanations, or apologies. Folkmore is a chill game, and it's completely fine to have not played much.

We welcome and encourage handwaving. Give us something your character did in the background or plans you have to back thread. Note handwaved interactions you discussed with other players. Many players use their check-in posts as records of important beats their characters experienced.

The bottom line is to show you have some OOC idea what is going on IC, even when you're not actively able to RP, to demonstrate your continued interest in the game with the character.

Summarized Activity: The elephants referenced last month between Vergil and Nero were finally addressed. Nero took the opportunity of Vergil winterizing his plants to give them both the opportunity to address questions they might have between them. During this conversation, Nero inquired about his mother. Vergil revealed how the pair of them met and gave enough details that Nero understood his parents loved one another. And more than that, if circumstances had been different and allowed for Vergil to know of his existence or Nero's mother to be there for him, they would have raised Nero and done so with an immense amount of love for their child. While this was overall happy news and more information than Nero ever dreamed of knowing about his mother or the circumstances of his birth, it was a moment of heartbreak for Vergil. Not only was he contending with the reality that his son grew up an orphan, but it seemed unlikely to him that Nero's mother wouldn't have raised him herself with or without Vergil. While he doesn't have anything beyond that as concrete evidence that she is no longer alive, he just cannot fathom the idea that she would abandon her son and left Fortuna without him. Thus, Vergil found himself both grieving the loss of her, and blaming himself for not being there to prevent whatever befell her and took her away from Nero since he abandoned her out of fear of being hurt should he be unable to protect her.

On top of that challenging conversation, Nero needed to clear the air between them regarding how they actually first met wherein Vergil ripped Nero's arm off to regain the Yamato. Vergil had a heads up of the apology being sought after thanks to Mizu, and had time to prepare a means of apologizing for the harm he inflicted on Nero without apologizing for doing what was necessary for his survival. And yet, despite his attempts at preparing for the conversation, Vergil ended up lashing out at Nero and then quickly on himself for his failings as a father to Nero. Nero, thankfully, didn't put up with any of it and firmly pulled Vergil out of his spiral. Nero accepted the apology from Vergil in the end, and the pair expressed a desire to build trust in their relationship with one another over time. This would eventually come to fruition after Vergil used his saved Lore to summon Blue Rose, Nero's prized modified revolver, and Nero expressing an interest in learning from his father as far as demonic abilities are concerned. When gifting Nero his firearm, Vergil also followed through on a promise of providing Nero with copies of his mothers' favorite books so that he could come to learn about her more and find connection with her through those pages.

However, the large feelings of guilt and grief intermingling with some of the raw feelings that came with the recent conversation with Dante meant Vergil spent time out in Cruel Summer. Rather than talk through these feelings with anyone, it felt more productive to him to be mercilessly slaughtering the wildlife out there. Vergil eventually simmered down though as far as all that is concerned though, and fell into a more regular rhythm of providing food from the farmer's market and researching a good homemade pizza recipe for his brother as he's sick of the low quality crap Dante appears to be willing to settle for.

While on the way home from the library amid his research, Vergil ran into Trish. Or, well, he thinks he stumbled upon a stray cat in need of a warm place to sleep for the night. Unbeknownst to him, that cat was Trish stuck in one of her familiar forms and reluctantly accepting help from Vergil in getting off the street at the very least. He would likely be mortified to know it was really her... Vergil also met a young girl in the Catfé who pushed a little too hard and sparked his temper. He immediately felt a little bad over his behavior when she appeared so crestfallen by his reaction, that he made mild amends before departing.

In addition to these daily goings-on, Vergil also continues to spend time with Mizu in Wintermute. They still spar with one another, the state of their relationship not changing the intensity of the fights in any way, but not every visit comes coupled with sparring. Vergil often goes to Wintermute for the sole purpose of spending time with Mizu in her cabin where they can be intimate with one another, and not just in the physical sense. Recently, in an attempt to take Mikio from her thoughts while she is with Vergil, Mizu opened up to Vergil about her relationship with her late husband and the woman she believed to be her mother. Vergil listened patiently, but made it abundantly clear that he felt Mikio had been a weak, cowardly man that did not love nor care for her in the ways she deserved to be loved and cared for. He once again made an attempt to have Mizu understand his feelings, but while she clearly didn't fully understand them, she was able to acknowledge and accept them far better than she has in the past. Since then, they have arguably grown a little closer to one another. Mizu now brings home books of poetry that she believes Vergil will enjoy to keep in her cabin since he often refuses to let her leave bed right away in the mornings. Vergil has also begun leaving changes of clothing in her cabin for pragmatic purposes, but also as an indirect reflection of their growing intimacy.

Towards the end of the month, Vergil, Dante, and Nero left Satori Hills to live in a three-bedroom house in Epiphany. Vergil selected the house to afford them all privacy while remaining together under one roof, and the garage was specifically identified for Nero to have space for tinkering around with his gadgets. Vergil has not been fussy about which room is his, but he has been a little particular about the kitchen. Especially with Christmas on the horizon, and, as Dante correctly pointed out, it will be his first Christmas with his son. Vergil wants everything to go well, and that includes the meal. But first, they will absolutely need to sort out decorations and a tree.
