We do not require traditional "activity" check-ins, but we do require an interest check-in to ensure that our players are present and still interested in the characters they play.

You will be required to check-in during the 1-8th of the month. If you cannot access a computer during this time, please let a mod or friend know so they can check-in for you.

You must check in your individual characters. If you fail to check in with any characters, they will be swept from the game.

If you missed check-in due to extenuating circumstances, please contact the mods ASAP and let them know the situation.

We ask our players to be active in the game even without formal activity check requirements. If we notice any concerning patterns with the same players missing check-ins and being swept from the game or being irresponsible with check-ins or squatting we will contact the player directly. This may include restrictions from reapplication into the game or actual activity requirements.

Please respect your fellow players and mods! We want to keep this game activity-requirement-free and active.

Every player will have an overall check-in comment with their name as the subject line. Every character a player writes will have a comment with their name and fandom as the subject line. Each month, players need to post a comment under each character's comment with the month and year in the subject line.

Check-in Content

Check-in comments are IC only, and are required to include a minimum of one thing your character did this month. You're welcome to include more.

Formatting is your choice: sentences, bullet points, something else. We're not picky!

We do not want links to threads, OOC explanations, or apologies. Folkmore is a chill game, and it's completely fine to have not played much.

We welcome and encourage handwaving. Give us something your character did in the background or plans you have to back thread. Note handwaved interactions you discussed with other players. Many players use their check-in posts as records of important beats their characters experienced.

The bottom line is to show you have some OOC idea what is going on IC, even when you're not actively able to RP, to demonstrate your continued interest in the game with the character.

🩰 Mayerling has flown to Never Fade a few times to explore the place, both with and without his goat. It's a quaint little place.
🩰 Mayerling and Sharon have worked on their tour of eating their favorite foods from the alternate universe where they were both human. Thanks to Sharon's power to share the taste of what she's eating, Mayerling is having the time of his life tasting foods for the first time as a vampire. As a vampire! Himself!
🩰 Mayerling agreed to enter the trial, so he could earn a `get out of trial free` pin for Sharon's later use.
🩰 Mayerling's trial confronted his bloodlust, long suppressed and rejected but not actually faced. He was presented the options: run away from people, give into bloodlust and feed (on people optional), have his bloodlust scientifically removed, or to accept and process it. Mayerling worked on the last, trusting Sharon to stop him if he actually tried to feed on her. He felt the full force of his bloodlust near a human and did not feed. It's not a cure, but it's a path to help himself.
🩰 Mayerling donated to the resin spoon, feeling the sense of two conflicting halves, and wound up seeing other people's dreams.

🩰 Mayerling dealt with the first month of having much much better control over his bloodlust than ever before in his life. Lessened, not just suppressed. It made it easier to socialize with people, more comfortable in his daily interactions with Sharon, and so forth. It was like being a brand new person.
🩰 Mayerling was briefly depowered by the lonely sharks. It had the side effect of making him not combust in the sun! It was the first time in a long time to get to go out in the sun without his wings around him (he became a dhampir in a trial last April and was human indoors in Baba Yaga's first trial). He enjoyed that.
🩰 Mayerling is enjoying the appearance of more Sleepers from Trench appearing in Folkmore. The latest arrival was Darth Maul, a friend of Sharon's.

🩰 Nerd alert. Mayerling, like so many vampires from his world, is actually incredibly scientifically minded. He marched in the opening parade, spent much of the month demonstrating vampiric technology to people, and immensely enjoyed the Worlds' Fair.
🩰 He received a piece of home for his reward, though not the waystation demonstrated at his world's display. It's simply too big to take home. Alas.
🩰 Mayerling may spend some more time at Thoth now after this event has rekindled (or reminded him) or his love for technology.

🩰 Mayerling demonstrated how well he knows technology/science by building a small device to allow people to see behind them. It went over well with people, though his visual aesthetic wasn't always to their personal taste. The technology, however, is great. He may now start building more technology in Folkmore.
🩰 Mayerling has enjoyed the benefits of having faced his bloodlust back in January, and it has led him toward even more positive views of Folkmore, Thirteen, and the like. He truly loves it here, even as he remains a bubble boy. He also appreciates how happy Sharon is being here as well, even though he knows she dislikes beings like Thirteen. He'd love to find a way to resolve that tension for Sharon but also... knows that may not be possible.

🩰 As has regularly been the case since Sharon gave him the ability to taste things (via her power) at Christmas, Mayerling enjoyed tasting the food available this month together with Sharon. Eating the same thing at the same time. These little things connect him far more with humanity than he could ever dream.
🩰 Mayerling has been observing and testing out the effects of the weather. Sure, this means he's caught on fire, but he came back inside, rested, and healed. Someday, he's sure, he won't be a bubble boy. (Just watch out, June).

🩰 Mayerling found June a month of reflection and contemplation. Ghosts, fires, they could have been action packed, yet as someone who could have earned his PhD in brooding many times over, he found it more reflective. Especially given he didn't burn in the fire.
🩰 Sharon let Mayerling confess to her to help with wildfire in Exile. He spoke about his childhood and got to see his parents in the memories portrayed in the flames. It's the closest he's come to them in Folkmore, so it hit him hard emotionally. So close yet so far away. He's also aware that the topic of drinking blood in an emergency may arise again with Sharon.
🩰 His conversation with Maul touched Mayerling deeply. Maul likes his words and has even turned one saying of his into art that he looks at. Maul confessed that listening to Mayerling's voice and contemplating many of his words helps him when his anger rises. Mayerling is both touched he can help Maul so much and at being remembered, at being worth remembering. Given the fall of his civilization, it's something he does not expect back home.

🩰 When Sharon asked Mayerling what he would want for himself, Mayerling said to walk in the sun in Folkmore without his bubble, so that he can directly interact with plants and everything so beautiful. She's determined to help him, and Mayerling loves that about her so much. She's incredible.
🩰 The trouble with being a vampire harmed by sunlight means that Mayerling was suddenly in danger inside his own home. Further, that light turned him into a Familiar, which removed his protective wing bubble. In a surprise attempt to protect himself, Mayerling transformed into... a horse. A horse in a burrow. Horses do not fit well in burrows, and Mayerling became stuck. He had to wait there until Sharon returned home to move all the furniture out of the way to free him. They then went on a ride around Folkmore, and Mayerling had to wait until night to transform back into his natural form so as not to catch on fire. (The other fire in Folkmore might not catch Star Children on fire, but womp womp personal flammability liability).
🩰 Sephiroth posted anonymously on the network asking for help with learning self-control, so as not to mind control people. Since self-control is one of Mayerling's greatest abilities, he volunteered to help teach it to Sephiroth. It just so happens Sephiroth had never heard of a vampire before, so this led to a series of backup plans being in place with Vincent and Sharon both going to be coming along to make sure nothing goes wrong. Mayerling is confident he won't bite Sephiroth tyvm but doesn't want Vincent to get worried and trigger happy.

🩰 Mayerling continues to help Sephiroth learn to handle his undesired and not fully controlled abilities. Sephiroth may not be a vampire, but his relationship with his own power reminds Mayerling of his type of vampire's relationship to many of their abilities. It's expanding his wheelhouse of those he feels responsible for, and that's for the better. Sephiroth needs to grow not only with his abilities but with regard to how he views himself. (Sephiroth's objection to Mayerling biting him was concern for Mayerling, not himself).
🩰 Mayerling and Sharon became engaged! His feelings were not news, yet he posted about them ardently, and Sharon agreed! It turns out she was already planning to propose to him, so it will be wedding planning times, as they decided not to simply elope.

🩰 Mayerling and Sharon got engaged! It was not so much a proposal as Mayerling admitting he would love to marry her any time (not a surprise) and Sharon saying they should do it. So now they are engaged and going to figure out getting married given Folkmore's whole Folkmore-ness.
🩰 Mayerling was immediately transported to Amrita Academy, where he was placed in building. Mayerling works mostly at night (and quietly, so people can sleep). He also spoke with Ariadne about the blood drive for vampires since Lore doesn't work for obtaining food, especially unusual... foods.
🩰 Sharon was not immediately with him, and Mayerling was modestly concerned. However, their soulmate bonds let him know that she was generally okay. He was quite glad when she made it back in only a week.

🩰 While working on the building team, Mayerling got the chance to meet a vampire aesthetic person who actually, as it turns out, is not a vampire. Not even a strange sort of vampire. So that is perhaps a minor mistake on his part, but oh well, it is no matter. He has met a new person, and that is good.
🩰 Rose, Sharon's mother, arrived and moved in with them! Incredible how the sheer optimism of choosing a large burrow with room for many people has truly come to fruition. He is quite happy and willing to live with the love of his life and her mother. To see her happy truly brings him joy, and he has spent far too long living along not to enjoy it.
🩰 Mayerling spent many a night cleaning up Folkmore, though it was often by himself as most people prefer to work during the day time. That did not bother him, and he tried his best not only to make progress but to make it easier for others come morning. In many ways it was a continuation of his time at Amrita Academy, and he looks forward to the day when he can spend more of his time with others socializing, but that hardly means he will not help the best he can.
🩰 The turtle and her island were not ideally located as someone sensitive to water, but Mayerling left materials neatly organized for her, and she noticed, which means more than the small gifts she provided (five spoons and a rock).

🩰 Not one to frequent Cruel Summer, Mayerling has not experienced all of the trial yet, but it's only a matter of time as the sad tale the selkies weave move his heart. So far, he has focused on helping them, the immediate needs, in Willow where there is plenty of safe water (unlike Exile) and it's fresh (unlike the ocean/Tides). Really, Willow is the best place for selkies at the moment.
🩰 Wedding planning continues as Mayerling is a firm believer that Sharon ought to have the wedding of her dreams. Nothing will top the arrival and presence of her mother, something he has no hand in, but he will do the best with the rest. The glitter induced emotional wellspring of their cake tasting made it an even more emotional experience, but truly one does not need to try so hard to get Mayerling to open up. The way it brought positive memories to the fore, however, is appreciated.

🩰 Though Rose, Sharon's mother, moved in with them from the start, Mayerling grew closer to her this month due to the trial. He found her by the bank of the lore river when he sensed something was wrong. Rose felt guilty and regretted being unable to save a police woman, Cybil, who helped her find Sharon. Mayerling connected firmly both as someone who has been unable to save someone and because, frankly, he's burned alive before. He was there for her as he could, and he continues to be. Even without the connection to Sharon, he would like her.
🩰 Mayerling found a vampire-adjacent new Star Child via his sense of smell. He introduced himself, as had been his norm for so long. It was good to do so again and to be of service to someone related to vampires.
🩰 Mayerling purchased Sharon's painting she showed him in the gallery in Trench on their first real date for her for Christmas. It is a bit strange, yes, to give Sharon something she created, but he thought she would like to have her art back. A piece of herself back.
