Roles
Meet Your Full Potential
Introduction to Roles
Characters can navigate between the Roles if they meet certain specifications. All Roles have unique attributes and abilities that players can choose to use on a case-by-case basis. We have provided general ideas, but please consider them as suggestions rather than strict guidelines. Not all Legends need to have wings or color-changing eyes. If you have ideas about how your character's qualities manifest, feel free to explain them to us in your application. Characters do not need to give up any canon abilities to gain abilities through their Roles.
Characters cannot have mixed qualities from the Roles unless it fits within their canon. For example, if your character is a literal angel, but has a nasty personality/goals, then you can keep their canonical angelic qualities but make them a Myth and allow them to gain Myth-based attributes. However, if you are playing a standard superhero, you could not give them both Myth and Legend qualities. Familiars are the only exception and may appear to have qualities of both, but those qualities should always be due to animal transformations.
Characters can be given contradictory roles. You do NOT have to have your Good Fuzzy Perfect character be a Legend. Morally gray characters can fall into any category. The general idea is to create a sense of division between the Roles and show the complexity of true "goodness" and "badness" and how there is basically no one correct way to be good or bad. We highly encourage players to handle the morality of these Roles with nuance.

Legend
Legends exist to represent the absolute concept of goodness in the universe. They are traditionally selfless, generous, protective, kind, and considerate. Their goals usually involve providing aid to others whether through physical protection, intellectual guidance, or healing. Legends might not embody all of these attributes, but generally speaking, their core goals and personality traits should align with what the average person would consider to be a "good" person. Legends typically care more about collectivism rather than individualism.
Qualities/Abilities Associated with Legends: Many Legends have been known to develop wings and halos, some of which are physically permanent features while others can hide their wings through magical means. Emotions can alter the color of eyes which is considered a way of enforcing legends to maintain honesty and emotional clarity per their goals.
Legends usually have enhanced durability, strength, bravery, and a high tolerance for pain. Legends have a natural sixth sense for determining when there is a creature in need nearby. However, legends have been known to lose rationale to their emotions rapidly and can be consumed by negative emotions. This has caused some legends to "fall" and become myths.

Myth
Myths are meant to represent all of the bad in the universe. They are traditionally selfishly motivated, emotionally distant/cold, greedy, arrogant, inconsiderate, and at times cruel. Myths are known for their ability to completely mask their motivations and emotions. Myths often detest forms of control/governing/authority and tend to embrace individualism over collectivism.
Qualities/Abilities Associated with Myths: Many Myths often grow various types of horns, tails, claws, and/or fangs. Most Myths are capable of seeing in the dark, detecting incoming threats, and have enhanced self-preservation skills such as quick reflexes. Myths have enhanced speed and resistance to poisons/gases.
Myths usually have incredible innovation skills, enhanced luck, and cleverness. Myths tend to easily pick up on learning new skills quicker than Legends. Myths can be "rise" to become Legends if they become increasingly selfless. Myths are vulnerable to isolating relationships and becoming hyperfocused on goals that they become emotionally unavailable and lose sight of their own morals.

Familiar
Not everyone has clear-cut morals and some people are better at serving than leading. These people fall into the neutral category where they are best suited to helping Legends and Myths or just keeping their heads low. Familiar's are the most emotionally stable of the various Roles, not as emotionally driven as Legends nor emotionally distant as Myths. They typically are more open to listening to different ideas and realizing that some situations require different skills and they tend to understand that what might seem "Good" in one situation could be seen as "Bad" in another.
Qualities/Abilities of Familiars: Familiars can alter their physical form and change back and forth between any animal. While in their animal form, they will lose any canon abilities they might have, but gain skills of the animal (such as flight if they turn into an eagle or the ability to breathe underwater if they turn into a fish).
Familiars may maintain animal features even outside of transformations such as feline eyes, animal ears, etc. Some are mistaken for Legends or Myths because of these mixed features. Familiars can "Dedicate" themselves to a Myth or a Legend and develop a unique psychic bond as long as both parties consent. This allows them to better help others with their goals and needs.
