Story of Us: January 2026

Hello Folkies! This is our monthly Story of Us post where we get together to make game announcements, ask for any feedback or suggestions, and remind our players of upcoming dates! This update covers 13th January - 12th February.

Trial Consequences & Continuing Effects
Over the last month, Folkmore experienced:
  • Cold arrivals in Cruel Summer with gathering campsites where Star Children could get winter outfits designed by their peers.
  • Landscape/environmental mixing on the borders of Cruel Summer and Exile. Monsters from each region fight each other at these boundaries and mixing points.
  • Cool refreshing water oases that turn Star Children melancholy and pull them into Exile.
These led to the following lasting consequences:
  • So far the landscape has stayed mixed, and it's only getting stranger. Might it be permanent?
These effects continue:
  • The environment continues to mix and monsters fight each other, though the fighting shifts as some Exile creatures take the side of those from Cruel Summer.
  • The dangerous oases continue to lure Star Children to Exile.
Iteration Iteration
Thirteen's iteration Agrona continues to lead Folkmore. Star Children can tell by the ways spirits invoke her name as protection. Karma comes big time for bullies. Anyone, Star Children or spirit, who callously or viciously go after someone else in the community find their homes trashed and some of their belongings scattered about Cruel Summer. Oh, and there's the large cat paw prints getting dust, water, paint, or something else all over the surfaces. Those who look out for each other, however, find their homes especially cozy and safe. Nightmares aren't as harsh, the weather doesn't reach as far in, and there's always at least enough milk in the carton to use one more time.

Agrona continues not to be seen in Cruel Summer, but there are a few reports of her appearing in Exile to save someone from certain death. She doesn't stick around, so don't put your neck on the line for a conversation. Instead speak with Jewelia, Kuma Lisa, Amrita, Lavender, or Thoth first. Harried and busy as they are themselves, they'll get Agrona to check her messages and get back to you.

Weather & New Environmental Effects
  • Winter weather continues, with the hardest times centering on Exile and the weather easing up the farther from Exile one gets. The icy storms in Exile continue to coat everything in ice, and large, long, sharp icicles hang from trees, rocks, and any other element that can act like a roof. The swamp is covered in thin sheets of ice that break under footfall. It's a miserable wet icy cold, so that even the picturesque environments bring to mind the worst memories of winter.
  • The ice encroaches on Willow and Cruel Summer where they border Exile. Talaria gets entirely iced in, so that some residents may be trapped in their homes. The ground near Leshy gets slick with ice and black ice, so that residents and visitors have to be careful. The snow stops falling in Willow, but in the cold weather, the snow on the ground remains and looks to do so until spring. Cruel Summer, on the other hand, combats the cold most ferociously. More plants burst into flame, and the Selkie River boils away.
  • The waves and storms rocking Tides calm, so that life in the city becomes much easier. Spirits bustle about fixing any storm damage, and transportation runs like clockwork. It's easy to get around the city. The only trouble is getting to or from the mainland. The sea has a great deal of ice, so reaching the elevator to Tides requires tricky navigation. The submarines and swimmers are more likely to face volatile, reactive sea creatures in their travels. It's a good time to know someone who can teleport.
  • Never Fade is cold, and the wind, oh the wind makes it feel even colder. The windmills are constantly turning this month, so at least the homes all have the energy to heat themselves up. However, the wind bites through most layers of clothing and discourages people from spending much time outside. Even the goats seem to want to be inside. Those living in Never Fade get a lot more goats as uninvited house guests.
  • Remarkably, Wintermute may have the best weather of all—picturesque views in perfect weather. It's the perfect place to ski, sled, or enjoy the hot springs. There's no shortage of fun to be had, even in the mostly dark days.
