He knows this Iron Man - whether he be a villain in disguise whose ploy is to discover the true identity of Iron Man - or whether this universe's Tony has come up with the worst cover story in the world as his boss and himself are never seen together - won't retain his memories when he goes back home. ]

I was, for a few years. Captain in the Army. Retired now. And I've got something to tell you, Iron Man, but I think you oughta sit down for it.

[ Mostly that he should maybe let this Tony know - and okay, he's pretty sure now that it's just the terrible cover story thing - that not only does he not need to keep things a secret at Folkmore, but it'll actually be impossible simply because the other one doesn't. But as he still thinks that there's an easy way home, Steve also doesn't want to make him uncomfortable or have him think this is all some sort of scheme.

And all that just means he's going to have to prove that he's some other universe's Captain America, first.
