Story of Us: January
Announcements and Feedback
Hello Folkies! This is our monthly Story of Us post where we get together to make game announcements, ask for any feedback or suggestions, and remind our players of upcoming dates!
Upcoming weather and information for February
🦊 The snowstorms from January have finally died off, but snow is still very much present. It's no longer hard to navigate, but it can be quite cold outside enough that the Lakes in Willow are still partially frozen. The cold feels a lot more natural now, though, and Star Children will be affected by it the same way they'd be affected by cold temperatures. The NATURMECHS (JAEGER TIME prompt from last month) are still available throughout the month of February if Star Children wish to continue to clear the snow. The Spirits around Folkmore will be very thankful.
🦊 The Spirits are back to working and their shops are finally open and ready to serve. They are a lot more cheerful this month and are often seen singing or humming songs as they go about their business. If someone asks them why they are so happy, they will state "the worst has passed!" Star Children who join them will find that singing, humming or creating music will bring a sense of safety and warmth. Some might even realize they have butterflies in their belly, almost... like a crush?
🦊 Thoth is still around to oversee the Naturmechs and make sure everything is working just right. She is quite pleased with Star Children for learning more about their fears and facing them, and hopes that will help them in the future. "They also learned how to use their abilities better!" she will add with a small mischievous smile.
Mod notes and Reminders
🦊 We have changed the OOC Player Introduction to the 7th (it was the 6th before), so it will be in the middle of the application period. We feel this will help those players who have joined us at the end of the application cycle. This has been reflected on our calendar page.
🦊 We have created a Permission Post providing requirements for permissions. Permission posts must be publicly available throughout a character's stay in Folkmore. To make it easier for our players, we posted an example with a customizable code. This code is simply an example, not mandatory.
🦊 We were a bit late this month! Our Invitations are open today and our TDM is up!

Info request
I was wondering if it would be possible to have some more expanded info about how the bond between Familiars and other roles work.
What is the process to kick-start it is what I am more unsure about. Do the chars just feel specially drawn to one another, is it necessary for them to work in tandem beforehand until something clicks, does affection play a part…?
Once the bond is in place, is it there a mental and emotional link or more? If one gets injured, does the other feel it, like it happens with daemons in the Dark Materials? Do they share the same dreams?
Sorry for being so curious, I just really like the concept of the familiar bond.
Thank you in advance!

There is a reason why the description of the Familiar bond is vague: it's meant to be up for interpretation. As said on the roles page these are "unique psychic bonds" which means each pair will have a bond that most fits them, and no bond is the same. That means the results can also vary between each pair! As long it's mental realm (which means characters do not share wounds but could share pain if that's what you want), you are free to choose how you want to represent it.
It's up to you if you wish to have the two characters knowing each other beforehand or not, if they are close or not or if they feel drawn to each other or not. Bonds do not have to be like finding your soulmate and can be simply practical, or it can be something deep and meaningful. It's entirely up to you to decide.
What is however, extremely important is consent, as also mentioned in the roles blurb: both characters must be aware of dedicating themselves to the respective roles mutually. How to make it happen has been answered here, but basically: "I agree to be your myth/familiar" or some variation of an agreement to that commitment needs to be made. As long as the feelings are mutual and made clear then that's all you need!
Characters can also have more than one single bond. A familiar can bond with many myths and many legends, and again, each connection can be different and work differently. And you can even choose to have some detrimental effects if someone has multiple Familiars, as stated in the FAQ before as well.
I hope this helps!

Oh, cool. I just didn't want to make the wrong assumptions just in case. Thanks for the clarification!
