September 2022 Trial Event Plotting

Trial 5 Plotting Post
[ QuestionsLive EventJump to CommentsFull Navigation ]

Welcome to our plotting post for this month's event! This plotting page will not include any generic mingle introductions found on the live event. If you have questions about the trial, let us know down below!

A NEW MEANS OF TRANSPORATION FOR FALL AND WINTER

To enjoy the scenic beauty of Folkmore as the seasons change, you can find hayrides pulled by foxes the size of horses. These foxes are not an extension of Thirteen. They are very affectionate and playful and may take you for a wilder hayride than anticipated...But don't worry! They are sweet and will slow down if you ask. Hayrides can carry between 2-10 people. Additionally, you can ride the foxes like horses if you ask nicely. They can carry up to 3 people at a time.

These foxes are impervious to injury and are incredibly brave. They will help Star Children who cry out for help and protection. These foxes will be wandering about Folkmore from September-February. Their coats will turn white mid-November and remain bright white during the winter. They are intelligent creatures and respond well to commands and requests. Those who can communicate with animals will find that these foxes think in colors and music rather than any known "language."

These unique foxes all have a silver halo floating over their heads and some local spirits believe that they are "legends who reached their full potential." Whether or not this is true is up for debate.

In the winter, foxes will pull large sleds around Folkmore to help provide transportation to those in need. They will journey throughout the mountains in case of any lost hikers.

Please feel free to use these foxes as standard NPCs during this time! They are technically a sentient race and therefore cannot be kept as "pets" but will be happy to provide consistent companionship with those who treat them kindly. They do not eat food but will help Star Children get food if necessary.

Feel free to use the following form for your plotting!

[ Prompt OnePrompt TwoPrompt Three ]

PROMPT ONE
Content Warnings: Poisonous apples, enchanted foods, optional intoxication through enchanted foods, increased violence through enchanted food.

The enchanted waters of August have done wonders for the harvest season in Folkmore! During the first week of September, people will have already begun to notice fall favorites popping up all throughout Epiphany and Willow. Massive squash, pumpkin patches, stalks of corn, and of course, apples. The apple orchards of Folkmore are infamous and sprawl for miles between Epiphany and Willow, supplying both with constant apple goodies for the season. The scent of apple pies, apple cider, cinnamon, pumpkin, and more fill the air.

The apples come in your standard variety: Granny Smiths, Galas, Honeycrisp, Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, and more! There is more than enough to go around and Kuma Lisa has been known to be found wandering throughout the orchards and collecting apples. She hands out apple cider at the Kuma Lisa Academy and gives Star Children a pro-tip...

"You know that old saying, 'An apple a day keeps the doctor away?' These apples kinda work like that! They can alleviate headaches and stomachaches and chase out the common cold...But they can also break spells. I know Baba Yaga likes to run her trial in October and you might want to have some apples nearby when it finally happens..."

Grab some baskets and stock up! The apples stay good for a long time especially if you jar them.

Outside of the crops being delicious and a suitable feast for everyone in Folkmore, you will come to discover that there are some enchanted crops if you look around carefully. After all, one of the most common tropes in fairy tales would be the involvement of enchanted food, right? Folkmore seems to be operating on the same premise!

You might even find some enchanted dishes throughout Folkmore due to this increase of enchanted foods! All enchanted dishes/food can be accessed from September-November.

ENCHANTED FOOD

FOLKMORIAN TEA: This tea has an intoxicating quality that starts with the smell and ends with the taste. Even if you are not physically capable of consuming anything, the steam this tea gives off is magical enough to have the same effect. This tea immediately relaxes people close enough to smell its patchouli and orange notes. The tea will help people sleep deeply and restfully and it will soothe emotional and physical aches. It makes one pliant emotionally and physically and many will want to cuddle after drinking/smelling this tea.

FOLKMORIAN HOT CHOCOLATE: Similarly to the Folkmorian tea, this treat's effect works through its steam or the actual drink itself and can work on all beings. Folkmorian hot chocolate instantly warms people up and has been known to save people from frostbite and the common cold. It makes one cozy and clear-minded. Its chocolaty smell will put anyone in a good mood, even the biggest grouches, and if you drink/smell enough, you might even get a bit...deliriously happy? Whoops! It's kind of like being drunk, but in a pleasant and goofy sort of way.

GOLDEN APPLES: These gold apples are exceptionally rare and can be found in any apple tree. It can be easy to miss them since they are dull gold, but once you see them, it's impossible to ignore them. These golden apples have an exceptionally sour taste, but they will give anyone eating them an incredible strength and bravery boost. They also increase durability and cloak anyone who has consumed them in a faint golden light. This only lasts as long as the apple is in your system. This apple is like regular apples which it can be jarred and made into pies. Since this apple is rare, it should be difficult to obtain many of these apples. Golden apples are seedless and cannot be grown.

POISONOUS APPLES: An infamous magical item of old lore: the poison apple. These grow primarily in Exile from crooked, dark trees. The apples are shiny red and succulent looking and have a heavy, musky odor. Most would be easily fooled by one of these apples in a batch of regular red apples. But the moment you take a bite, you will be plunged into a death-like sleep that one can only be roused through true love's kiss...Or someone with exceptional psychic abilities. Those not awakened will die in a matter of days after being in a coma-like slumber.

MOLOKO PLUS: This is rare milk that can only be purchased this time of year in Folkmore. It cannot be frozen or saved and must be drunk within a week of purchase. This milk has a mild purple tinge and an incredibly deep, satisfying flavor. One might think it makes an amazing addition to one's hot chocolate or recipes since it seems to pull out flavors in other things incredibly! However...The catch with this little treat is that it drastically increases violence within characters. This inclination towards violence lasts as long as the milk is in someone's system.

LEMBAS BREAD: Unsurprisingly...In Willow, one can find an abundance of Lembas Bread which looks and tastes a bit like shortbread cookies. A single bite of this rich, enchanted bread can fill someone up for the day and provide them with all of the nutrients they need and then some! This is a popular treat in Folkmore throughout fall and winter. It is made in small batches by magical frogs who claim to know the secret to the bread and have no interest in sharing the recipe! Sorry!
PROMPT TWO
Content Warnings: Potentially forced honesty.

Food isn't the only thing enchanted this month. There is pulsing magic throughout the forests and over the mountains as the world changes from green to fiery oranges, yellows, and reds. Some people may feel naturally wistful and comfortable this time of year due to the weather, but there is something deeper in this wistfulness. People will find themselves becoming contemplative of things they wish they had done differently or things that they have never properly talked about with others before.

Then there is the red scarf. Red scarves have blown about Folkmore and gotten tangled up in trees and in front of people's homes. These simple, soft knit scarves hardly seem unique at a glance. Someone's lost scarf with no known owner. But this scarf will only appear to people who are in love, have a crush, or are suffering from some sort of heartbreak. The heartbreak could be familial, platonic, or romantic - in any case, it's the result of a failed relationship or people who feel they are struggling to be open with their feelings about a relationship.

This scarf can also represent the feelings of failing in life in general. Those who feel they may have missed a career opportunity, those who feel like they failed their own potential, failed at obtaining their life goals. Wearing the scarf may soothe these feelings, but in the long run, the scarf will only make one feel like they need to acknowledge their failings. Discussing these feelings with others will alleviate the "rut" and bring immense relief. It may also help switch people's roles. Similarly, this scarf may encourage people to confess their feelings to people...Either the object of their affection or random strangers! Sometimes you just gotta get something off your chest.

The scarf may mysteriously vanish after someone has combatted their shortcomings. Alternatively, one may be able to keep the scarf. If you refuse to talk about your feelings, the scarf will only cause your burdens to suffocate you...But if you do talk about them, the scarf will bring you incredible bravery and confidence whenever you wear it. It will be easier to take heartbreak and transform it into something productive and powerful! Like writing a ten-minute ballad or something.

This very well could become an emotional security blanket to many and help them reach their full potential in the long run...
PROMPT THREE
Content Warnings: AU-centric shenanigans, fanfiction tropes, possible crack. Technically temporary "amnesia" and forced alteration of bodies/minds per player choice

A spillover from the bubbles of August has seemed to put something in the water and in the air. It's unsurprising that such extreme magic would take some time to dissipate, and in the meantime, Star Children will just have to deal with the consequences. And most of them won't even know any better! Instead of having a bunch of duplicates running around or variants from different timelines, characters will undergo a complete (and temporary) transformation into an alternate universe version of themselves.

But not just any version. Oh no. These versions embody the most iconic and known tropes to cinema and fanfiction alike. We're talking High School AUs, Coffee Shop AUs, Power Swap AUs. If it has a tag on AO3 then it probably fits well in this event. The idea is for characters to be temporarily suspended in a frame of mind where they have no recollection of their regular self...And the catch...?

Anyone they interact with will have no recollection of who they used to be either! That means anyone who knew canon Spock will forget completely about canon Spock in exchange for knowing about high school!Spock or feeling as though they are meeting him for the first time. However, this will only constitute when they are interacting with Spock directly. If they spend time away from him, they will start to remember the "Real" Spock, but if they try to go and tell him about it, they will simply forget all over again.

Characters can start to realize what is going on with these "alternate universe" versions of themselves, but there will be nothing anyone can do to stop it. Unless, of course, you want your character to eat some of the enchanted apples and realize who they are abruptly. Players can go as hard with this prompt as they want or not. You can choose to have your character remember everything from this period or not. Players can make cohesive AUs together if they want all their respective characters to be "in the same high school" and create backgrounds together. Go wild!

This enchantment comes through the light, occasional drizzles throughout Folkmore. These "alternate universe" versions of characters can last as long as a player desires. The effect can wear off after a few days, hours, weeks, or even months - but it should eventually run off.

These "alternate universes" can change people physically/mentally. The effects of this wear off by the end of October.
