I don't think they're from the people who took apples, or at least not just from the people who took apples. See-
[And he's instinctively fishing for a knife, before remembering that, oh, right, they were mugged. So instead, he's holding his spoon like he's going to murder someone with it, as he has done in the past. Bear with him.]
If I was fighting for my life I'd be holding my knife like this, right? And if I ended up dropping it...
[And he's dropping his spoon, just letting it clatter to the dirt. Point being, it wasn't dramatically buried.]
Even if one guy managed to get his sword - or whatever - buried in the ground before ending up impaled, that doesn't mean all of them would've. So, either someone took the time to arrange the weapons after the fact, or-

Speaking of, this has reminded him that he's low on knives and he's going to look at the weapons to see if he can find one that looks...right, because, murder aside, knives and daggers and small bladed items are just useful in general. Sometimes you needed to cut things.
